SUCH a long day.
* Breakfast shift! I shared it with a classmate. Together we made four batches of rice crispy treats, one batch of scotcharoos, scooped out a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough into cookie-sized portions for later baking, and wrapped two of the aforementioned batches of rice crispy treats for sale. I gave some homegrown tomatoes to our "boss", and he passed on an assignment to me: Apparently, each of the (bakery student?) interns is supposed to come up with some sort of bar-type snack-dessert thing that can be sold in the cafe. The materials can only cost about sixty cents (USD), and it has to be freezable but also sellable at room temperature. I have about a week.
* Speaking of coming up with recipes, our teacher for Dietary Restrictions is continuing her teaching method of Make The Students Teach Themselves. We're supposed to find/bring in/alter/make up recipes three days a week that we will then make and try on each other. The five recipes voted "best" (or more, in the event of a tie) will be shared out to all of the students. The goal is to leave us with a minimum of fifteen solid recipes for each of four specific dietary needs. The reality is that it will leave us with a maximum of three recipes we're minimally familiar with, and a host of others that are available to us. I prefer Chef Smith's teaching method, which I may go into detail about another time.
* This week in Dietary Restrictions, we're focusing on diabetes. Today we made low-sugar muffins. Our teacher's suggestion (implied assignment) was to find a fruit to replace some of the sugar with. I decided to go all-out savory and used a tomato and some basil from our garden to make basil, tomato, and Parmesan muffins. I ended up tied for fifth in the "five favorites" with the classmate who shares my name and whose offering was pumpkin chocolate chip muffins (which I totally voted for). Since I basically improvised my recipe on the fly from a basic "plain" muffin recipe our teacher provided us with, I'll have to type it up so I can turn it in tomorrow. On the plus side, it was strongly implied that the "winners" get extra points, so. My muffin ended up tasting rather pizza-like, and not in a bad way. I do plan to share the recipe here, because why not.
* Between the two events mentioned above, I had one other class (Workplace Communications, and I was seriously out of it for that class due to having come off my breakfast shift only an hour before and getting only about seven hours of sleep the night before) and a "field trip". I would usually have two midday classes scheduled on Tuesday, but today was the product show for a particular supply company, so we all went to the hotel where AnimeIowa is hosted and ate delicious food samples until we were fit to burst. There was some classwork to go along with it, but that's less interesting.
* Tomorrow is another day. Last breakfast shift of the week, and second third of my total cafe breakfast shifts; while I got a reprive from driving my classmate in today, she has asked me to pick her up tomorrow, so that's still a thing. I also need to find a recipe for a fruit-based dessert for Dietary Restrictions with a focus on minimizing carbs. Fun stuff. I'll probably muddle through Cost Control and Merchandising, the class we had the "field trip" for, somehow. Not sure what I'll do (recipe-wise) for Dietary Restrictions; I'll probably ask one of my friends for the website she uses to find her sugar-free recipes.
And now, sleep. Probably only another seven hours for me, but at least I'll get to sleep in tomorrow.
Edit:
Socchan: *decides to check e-mail one more time before hitting the hay*
E-mail: Hey! That one fic about the thing that you've been following has been UPDATED! :D
Socchan: ...sob.
I WILL READ TOMORROW. TONIGHT THERE WILL BE SLEEP, OR THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES. DIRE CONSEQUENCES.
