Meme time!

Busy afternoon today. Going to try for blood donation again this afternoon at four (crossing my fingers that iron count will be high enough; it should be, seeing as I've been taking my vitamins, but you never know) so I can feel like I've earned my One Gallon stuff. Have a psychologist appointment before that at two. Should have an eensy bit of time to lounge around/check "real" mail between the two, but not a lot. Getting (a good deal of) my 'netting out of the way early.

Anyway, I'm somewhat bored, and this is something I've been wondering for a while, so I'mma start a meme!

How do you pronounce your LiveJournal name (or other online handle)? Do you have a different one you prefer and use more often? If so, how is that pronounced? What do you answer to in real life?

This is basically a "How do I address you verbally?" quiz. Because yeah, that's the kind of question that keeps me up at night when I wonder about actually meeting people ^^a And there's a number of you that I do not only want to meet, but may indeed have an opportunity to do so sometime in the future. So, that's what this is here for! ...That, and there's some names I really wonder about. Anyway, steal if you like, answer if you like, yadda yadda yadda.

For the record: "Soh-chan", or, for the more craftily inclined, "Sew-chan"; I will probably answer to it. I'll also answer to my real name (which I don't usually use online as there are too many of us here, though feel free to ask after it), my French class/confirmation name (Geneviève ("Jen-uh-vee-ev")), and possibly even Soc ("Sock").

Edit: ...I leave for a few hours and come back to thirteen replies. Good God +_+ Uh, for the record, considering from what I derived my handle, I guess pronouncing it "Sock-chan" would work as well? *will get right on replying to those now, rly*

*chuckles* We were just wondering how some people's names are pronounced last night. ^^;; I've always thought of yours as being pronounced as 'So-chan'. #^^#

For the record, I'm just 'Icka'. Generally pronounced 'Ick-ah', but also 'Eee-kah' to some people. (and in some places in New Zealand, 'Ich-er' o_0 )

Some people like suffixes, 'Icka-chan' is fine, so is 'Icka-san', but not 'Icka-sama'.
There's a reason for this. 'Icka-chan' in japanese is the equvlant to 'Squidy', but 'Icka-sama' means 'Funny-business', 'Tom-foolery' or 'Quackery'.
So no Icka-sama. ^_________________^

So you're saying you're not involved in any funny business at all? >;D

...and here I was thinking the translation for "Icka-sama" applies perfectly :D

'Ika-su' means 'Be Groovy'. ^_________^

'Ika' (as it would be spelt in the 'kana) can also mean 'under', 'closet' and 'Doctor' as well as 'Squid'.
Take it as you like. #^^#

Heh. If I had to say it out loud, I'd pronounce it like what Conan always says when addressing Kogoro: "occhan", just with an s in front. ;-)

Can-dee-land? :D Any suffix is fine, but most call me Candy-chan ♥ A woman I work with calls me Baby or Girl, and one of my friends calls me Lady *laugh* I also respond to my real first name, Hey You, and Princess ^____^

...I've had a lot of nicknames in my day, haven't I?

Candy works fine for me! Most people call me Candy-chan online--even a few of my RL friends call me Candy. It's...sort of weird, really, but I answer to it. The best one I've ever gotten was on an ff-dot-net review, when someone called me "Candyland-chan-san" o.O

My real name is also very easy to pronounce...but nobody can spell it right. WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT SPELLING IT WITH AN -EY, PEOPLE?? HONESTLY!! *is sedated* Ooooh, pretty colors...

...I demand to know these handles so I can do some detective work and read your early masterpieces because I'm a curious little thing like that :D

I guess it doesn't bother me too much when it's random people...but when it's professors who've had me in class for three years? RAR!!

Weirdest spelling I ever saw was at Taco John's--they take your name and call it when your food's ready. And this person spelled it not with an -ay, not with an -ey, not even with just a -y, but L-I-N-D-S-E-I-G-H. I'm like, "You're making this waaaaaaay too complicated, sir."

*crosses arms and pouts* I wanna read 'em! D:

( Wait, so "socchan" is pronounced "Soh-chan" and not "Sock-chan"? XcD; Geneviève is a nice name though. ^_- )

DagronRat is pretty straight foreward. "Dag" as in the beginning of "Dagger" and "Ron" as in that of "Ronald," unless you are a french speaker then "ro'(n)" as in "rond" (french word for round) is accepted. The Rat is optional, and I will respond to "Dag'" anyway. Most IRL call me by my birthname though.

Happy New Year by the way, and good luck with blood donation!

*knows because has a pendant that says so :3*

Maybe it's not so far off. heh~ ^_^-
*so no fail + fun titbit ;c) *hug* *

Heh; thanks for the opportunity to do this, because my name gets pronounced in a LOT of odd ways, which is sort of weird considering how short it is. But it's 'YIZ-ah-bet'. Hard "Y", as in 'yeah' or 'yes' or 'Yacko', accent on the 'Yiz'. Hard "T" on the end, too; every now and then somebody tries to pronounce it as 'Isabeau' for reasons unknown. **raises Welsh red-dragon banner** I am not French! ^__^

**grin** Everybody pronounces it wrong; I have friends (**glances at Morgan shiftily**) who've known me for years and years who pronounce it wrong. The thing is, there are variants of 'Elizabeth' damn near *everywhere*, so there are lots of ways to say/spell it. Can't find a Japanese equivalent, though, which is probably all that's keeping me from developing an alternate persona in the SCA.

Mine is pretty much pronounced how it looks. It used to be just _lyzz, which is pronounced like Liz. Then I changed it to lyzzle just out of the blue, don't know why. It rhymes with shizzle. Lyzzle fo' shizzle. Which just happens to be engraved on the back of my iPod nano. :D Someone once told me my nickname Lyz (before I added the second z) looked like it was pronounced 'lies'. I think the second z makes it clearer.

For the record, my first LJ was lyzzyness, but PLEASE don't look at it. I do not associate with it anymore. >>;

In real life, I get called:
Lyndsey (my real name)
Lyzz
Lyzzle
Lyzzizzle
Lyzz-kohai
Izzy (<- Story here. I used to have a Yahoo account where my username was invaderzzy, based on the Irken Invaders from Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac's nickname Nny. My friend Justin was basically the only person I talked to on there, and somehow he got around to calling me Izzy. I rather like it. ^^)

I pretty much knew yours was pronounced Soh-chan. ;D

Yeah, I know. I just thought it would contribute to the demonstration of my astounding uncreativity. Also, I was hyper and rather talkative at the time.

You know, a lot of people think it's mssbt for some reason and it makes me laugh XD. Although I honestly think it's a little childish now, but it's all I could think of when I was setting this up ^^;. Using my two big OTPs at the time. I'm still really obsessed with both, but... vowels are my friends XD.

Mine's pretty simple. Girl quinn. "ger-luh kuh-win" or however you write phonetically. Also goes by Quinn. As in Harley Quinn from Batman the Animated Series. If I ever find myself in Iowa or you find yourself in California, we'll exchange real names then. =P
