Meme time!
Jan. 3rd, 2007 01:45 pmBusy afternoon today. Going to try for blood donation again this afternoon at four (crossing my fingers that iron count will be high enough; it should be, seeing as I've been taking my vitamins, but you never know) so I can feel like I've earned my One Gallon stuff. Have a psychologist appointment before that at two. Should have an eensy bit of time to lounge around/check "real" mail between the two, but not a lot. Getting (a good deal of) my 'netting out of the way early.
Anyway, I'm somewhat bored, and this is something I've been wondering for a while, so I'mma start a meme!
How do you pronounce your LiveJournal name (or other online handle)? Do you have a different one you prefer and use more often? If so, how is that pronounced? What do you answer to in real life?
This is basically a "How do I address you verbally?" quiz. Because yeah, that's the kind of question that keeps me up at night when I wonder about actually meeting people ^^a And there's a number of you that I do not only want to meet, but may indeed have an opportunity to do so sometime in the future. So, that's what this is here for! ...That, and there's some names I really wonder about. Anyway, steal if you like, answer if you like, yadda yadda yadda.
For the record: "Soh-chan", or, for the more craftily inclined, "Sew-chan"; I will probably answer to it. I'll also answer to my real name (which I don't usually use online as there are too many of us here, though feel free to ask after it), my French class/confirmation name (Geneviève ("Jen-uh-vee-ev")), and possibly even Soc ("Sock").
Edit: ...I leave for a few hours and come back to thirteen replies. Good God +_+ Uh, for the record, considering from what I derived my handle, I guess pronouncing it "Sock-chan" would work as well? *will get right on replying to those now, rly*

Date: 2007-01-03 07:05 pm (UTC)For the record, I'm just 'Icka'. Generally pronounced 'Ick-ah', but also 'Eee-kah' to some people. (and in some places in New Zealand, 'Ich-er' o_0 )
Some people like suffixes, 'Icka-chan' is fine, so is 'Icka-san', but not 'Icka-sama'.
There's a reason for this. 'Icka-chan' in japanese is the equvlant to 'Squidy', but 'Icka-sama' means 'Funny-business', 'Tom-foolery' or 'Quackery'.
So no Icka-sama. ^_________________^

Date: 2007-01-04 01:30 am (UTC)And possibly also bishoujo....Anyway, people were mentioned by name, and I thought, "Oh shit, that's not how I mentally pronounce some of those! I'd better double-check before I make a complete ass of myself!" And there you go.(Yeah, that sounds about right for the accent. Er. Though I hope they didn't go around spelling it Ichor. Or anything.)
So, it's not a formality thing, it's a homonyms thing?
...Figures "funny-business" would be something to do with tentacles.

Date: 2007-01-04 03:18 am (UTC)My real name is also very easy to pronounce...but nobody can spell it right. WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT SPELLING IT WITH AN -EY, PEOPLE?? HONESTLY!! *is sedated* Ooooh, pretty colors...
...I demand to know these handles
so I can do some detective work and read your early masterpiecesbecause I'm a curious little thing like that :Dno subject
Date: 2007-01-04 09:25 pm (UTC)Yeah, well, our family doesn't believe in extra letters, so we've gotten into the habit of spelling things for people.
No :< If you want my early crap that badly, I'll copy-paste it somewhere and send it to you. The spelling errors, Duke! The spelling errors!

Date: 2007-01-04 09:41 pm (UTC)Weirdest spelling I ever saw was at Taco John's--they take your name and call it when your food's ready. And this person spelled it not with an -ay, not with an -ey, not even with just a -y, but L-I-N-D-S-E-I-G-H. I'm like, "You're making this waaaaaaay too complicated, sir."
*crosses arms and pouts* I wanna read 'em! D:

Date: 2007-01-04 09:55 pm (UTC)XD Well, if it helps 'em remember, then I say, fine!
Okay, fine, I'll do some digging :<<< If you haven't gotten to FF.net already, there's where you can start. If you have, I'll just have to find all of my old *mumble mumble* Gundam Wing *mumble mumble* fics for you. Or at least as many as I can get my hands on. I'm pretty sure all my Pokémon fanfic was lost in my recent room cleaning, though.

Date: 2007-01-03 07:37 pm (UTC)DagronRat is pretty straight foreward. "Dag" as in the beginning of "Dagger" and "Ron" as in that of "Ronald," unless you are a french speaker then "ro'(n)" as in "rond" (french word for round) is accepted. The Rat is optional, and I will respond to "Dag'" anyway. Most IRL call me by my birthname though.
Happy New Year by the way, and good luck with blood donation!

Date: 2007-01-04 01:36 am (UTC)Yeah, that's about how I pronounced it mentally. Good to have confirmation, though. Plus, possible nickname! One sylable = good :D
Thanks, you too ^__^ Alas, I did not make iron count ;_; I was off by six percent this time. *headdesk*

Date: 2007-01-03 10:38 pm (UTC)For the record, my first LJ was lyzzyness, but PLEASE don't look at it. I do not associate with it anymore. >>;
In real life, I get called:
Lyndsey (my real name)
Lyzz
Lyzzle
Lyzzizzle
Lyzz-kohai
Izzy (<- Story here. I used to have a Yahoo account where my username was invaderzzy, based on the Irken Invaders from Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac's nickname Nny. My friend Justin was basically the only person I talked to on there, and somehow he got around to calling me Izzy. I rather like it. ^^)
I pretty much knew yours was pronounced Soh-chan. ;D

Although I honestly think it's a little childish now, but it's all I could think of when I was setting this up ^^;. Using my two big OTPs at the time. I'm still really obsessed with both, but... vowels are my friends XD.

Man, I'm bored. XD;

Yep, looks like.
So, "sh" sound instead of "ks" sound then. Got it!
Boredom is the perfect excuse to gank memes :O
