Okay, yeah, moving on. I was going to go on a long gripe session about not having a car, and how the whole endorphins-from-exersize thing is BS in certain situations, but after French class, I don't feel like it as much. Instead, I'll just say, "It's not the cold, it's the dry," and leave it there.

Briefly, while I thought I had things worked out re: school this semester, it seems Mom may not have had him as convinced as we might've liked? Or maybe it's just his memory (ohgodplzno). Anyway, this was our conversation last night:

Dad: What classes are you taking?
Me: ...French.
Dad: And?
Me: That's it. I'm taking a break from schoolwork this semester, remember? I'll be looking for a job on the side.
Dad: You sure you couldn't take a full load? Because it would be cheaper (insurance-wise).
Me: *thinking* ...Gee, thanks for telling me this after the first day of classes is officially over, Dad. *aloud* ...I'll think about it/look into it.

On the plus side, at least I'll have a conversation starter with Dr. Kay tomorrow.


Unrelated side note, anyone have any information about what social services are like in Japan? For the homeless and such, I'm thinking. ...Not because I'm planning to go to Japan and become homeless, but because I need it for a plot point in Communications (which I am vaguely working on right now, and hope to have a fic_off-related update for shortly).

Also, I have no real thoughts at this moment re: live action Avatar movies, aside from "I hope I can get something that resembles a soundtrack from the show out of this." ...Okay, and also, "Let's see the professionals try and deal with immitating Katara's hair style now!" and "Woo-hoo, potential better costume references!" But mostly the soundtrack thing.

Edit: I hope they still have those fleece scarves at the Dollar Tree. I want to make more bedding for the ratties' cage.

I heard that social services is not a major focus in Japan (this is hear say, considering my knowledge is based on readings in Sociology class), but I heard their assistance is mostly directed to the elder and young.

I was actually thinking earlier today that I'd really like a soundtrack for Avatar. I'm a sucker for awesome BG music, and I loooooove instrumental music, and an Avatar soundtrack would totally deliver. It would also be cool if they did an album of character songs! *is bonked*

I've been wanting one for a while now. Mostly for full versions of what Uncle sings, but also for the awesome background music. Also, I would pay lots and lots of good money for Avatar Drama CDs. *begins to wonder if they should pitch the idea to the Nick people*

I have not verified this at all, but ...

When I was in Japan this past summer, I asked my friend (who has lived in Japan) about homelessness. He said that it's a fairly recent problem (with their economic downturn and company failures), so they haven't yet developed a good way of handling it. He said many of the homeless are discharged salarymen. He also said there are shanty-towns in and around Tokyo. I wasn't in Tokyo so I didn't see any myself.

I did, however, see many many homeless cats. Homeless, abandoned kitties are called "nora neko," and they're a real problem. Japan apparently doesn't suffciently encourage pet owners to spay and/or neuter their animals. And they don't have as good a shelter system as we have in the U.S., so kitties get dumped in parks.

I have... no real opinion on it, actually ¦D I mean, I'm probably going to go waste money to see it in theaters, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low. Because yeah, I've become that much of a fangirl by now.

...I have no idea who that is. And that would kinda hurt my head, I think.
