Visit summary's gonna hafta wait 'til later, still not quite coherent enough to sort through events. In the mean time, it seems someone may be trying to pull an FF.net on LJ? The fandom_wank post is here, but Journal Fen is having (likely related) traffic problems, so you'll probably have to make do with getting the basic idea here. That is, unless someone gets up a mirror or something. Thought you might want to know. Er, that is, if you didn't already.

Edit: If anyone's interested in how to minimize the searchability of your journal, there's instructions here, which basically boil down to "Check the second to the last box in viewing options, the one that's labeled "Minimize your journal's inclusion in search engine results". You can also then go to LjSEEK and disable indexing, though I haven't the foggiest idea what that means.

This whole thing is total BS. Claiming that they're only reporting journals that promote that kind of behavior? CRAP. LJ doesn't have the time or resources to go through every single journal/community and find out which ones are support groups and which ones are just fandom enjoyment and which ones are actually doing something wrong.

I do respect their ideals--child porn is disgusting. But the way they're going about it is totally wrong--it could potentially be illegal AND even leave them open for a lawsuit if they push the wrong button somewhere.

Wonder where the fandom will go next if this keeps boiling up. Pity--I really like LJ.

It reminds me somewhat of FF.net banning lemons, but it's not quite the same: on the one hand, it's similar in that it's being pushed by an outside group; on the other, LJ really does seem genuinely sorry to be doing this when they know that the intent is not always the same as the word.

I hear GreatestJournal allows something like 1000 icons.

Yeah, Axel-mun put up a (locked) post on CFO last night, right after I got this one up. There were over 130 comments when I left ^^a Most of the players made sure to alter/remove anything criminal from their characters' journal interests, and we've got a plan in case those people decide to go after journal names as well. Crossing my fingers that we won't, but still, just in case.
