Well. Strikethrough 07 Strikes Back, I guess, this time with Emboldened Users. Suckage. (RETROACTIVE DISCLAIMER: Any characters involved in any sexual activity in any of my written or drawn works are of age unless otherwise stated.) Besides the usual slow-burning anger in the back of my mind and mild annoyance that they're still not distinguishing between children having sex and teenagers having sex, I'm not giving it a lot of mind.
...Mostly because I'm still too distracted by Nickelodeon. I finally have a version of the "I want girl Avatar action figuresgrr!" letter that Mom has approved for me to send! Hooray! Now all I need to do is find out where and who to send it to, and I'll be golden.
For the record, my version is here:
Dear Nickelodeon Toy Marketing Executives,
My name is [socchan's real name], and I am a twenty-year-old Avatar fan. I would like to ask when, if ever, you plan to release female action figures for the series Avatar: the Last Airbender. Many fans of the show, including me, are quite disappointed that we cannot yet "reenact our favorite scenes from the show," as key players in many of the scenes have not been made. Since continuing to overlook them in favor of producing male characters with less screen time is potentially ignoring a huge marketing niche, I can only hope that you will consider making some of the female characters into action figures at some time in the near future.
Sincerely,
[socchan's real name]
Avatar fan
Quote my mother: "This is a letter I would not be ashamed to get a phone call about you sending."
People looking to write their own letters to Nick, here is a good, simple format you could base yours on:
Dear Nick,
I want girl action figures for Avatar.
There are none.
Please make them so I can give you more money.
Yours,
Avatar fan
Bad things to include: the implication that Nickelodeon is a) too stupid or b) too sexist to think that anyone would want to play with action figures of the girls; anything that would suggest that Avatar fans are not eloquent enough to ask for this politely.
I'm hoping to ask the library reference desk about where I can send my letter sometime this evening. I'm going for snail mail myself, since I think it would send a slightly stronger message, but I'm also going to try and find an e-mail address and phone number, in case I decide to go overboard. I'll post everything I get in this entry once I get it, and link back here.
Completely different note, I do in fact have an idea that I'm sort-of working on for
dc_yaoi's second anniversary, but it's probably not going to be done on time. Oh, well! Looks like I'll just be Miss Late To The Party Again.
Edit: Why am I not up-to-date with Bleach, someone tell me. THEY'RE NEARING CHAPTER 300, COOL THINGS HAPPEN ON THE EVERY-FIFTY-CHAPTERS MARKS.
Edit 2: Dear God, I love the library reference desk. ADDRESS: GET! Also phone # :DDD
Find them here:
1515 Broadway 38th Fl.
New York, NY, 10036
212-258-8000
If someone wants to go to the trouble of finding an e-mail address for them before I do, I would welcome the help ♥ Otherwise, let the polite begging for female action figures begin!
Edit [11/18/07]: Mattel's contact info can be found here. One day I will find out why that is so much easier to find than Nick's contact info.
