soc_puppetHave Heart Gold and Soul Silver! I am probably the only person in the universe who, when getting both, purposely started SS before HG. Or, well, at least in the clear minority. Seeing as Silver was the copy of the original that I played, whereas it was my brother who played Gold, this suggests that Soul Silver has the greater nostalgia value for me.
Speaking of nostalgia value, HOW MUCH OF THIS GAME WAS MADE JUST WITH THAT IN MIND. I mean, sweet zombie Jesus.
Setting, plot, characters, etc → Gold, Silver, Crystal
Pokémon follow you, yay! → Yellow
Take your Pokémon on a walk, yay! → Pocket Pikachu (original and color)
Finally got my Pokéwalker started up an hour-ish ago. I am super duper annoyed that it's less easy to manipulate into thinking you're walking than the Pocket Pikachus were. While it does seem possible to make it 'step up' by just shaking it, it's difficult to do, and I certainly haven't gotten the angle right (or wev) to do so consistently for more than a few steps at a time. Leg shaking (where you clip it to a sock and bounce/wiggle your leg, as seen here) seems to do better, though not significantly so.
Mind, while there is certainly more than a little selfishness in my annoyance, I'm also annoyed for people who are unable to walk. Regardless of whether the disability is temporary or permanent, it is beyond sucking that they will not be able to get as much out of the game, especially if the Pocket Pikachu is something they loved.
Does this mean I hate the Pokéwalker? No, not at all. As you may recall from an earlier discussion of the Pokémon Pocket Pikachu, I loved it then, and I'm quite happy to have something similar, if not exactly the same. I'm just sad that not everyone who wants to will necessarily be able to share in my enjoyment of the product.
Hopefully, sooner or later, someone will come up with a way around the mobility problem of the Pokéwalker. I'll probably even try looking for one myself. Once I find one, via the internet or real life exploration, I'm sure I'll be able to enjoy using the device more wholeheartedly.
