Life-ish update-ness

So yeah! Posting, it hasn't happened for the last week and a half -_-a Stuff kept on happening, I was just not much with the writing about it. So instead I will sum up :Db
* Weekend before the most recent, there was snow. GASP. Except I was not actually surprised, because there is always a March snowstorm in Iowa. It's practically a universal constant. The only way we could've gotten out of one this year is if the Early October Snow (which I had never experienced before, IIRC) of last year were to cancel it out - which, clearly, it didn't. Therefore: March snow.
* Most recent Thursday: While my bus was stopped so I could attempt to drop off a child (and there are some issues with this which I will not get around to in this post, but it -does- in fact take a while for this particular kid to get into his house after departing the bus, which is, I promise, relevant), a woman parked her car in opposite me, got out, and stood in my doorway to talk to me. I'm paraphrasing, but she started with something along the lines of "It may be none of my business, but what gives you permission to block the road for minutes at a time?"
(Now, pretty much anything that starts with "It may be none of my business, BUT" is not going to be a good conversation. Similarly, "With all due respect" basically implies that the user thinks you are due absolutely no respect at all.)
I replied that I needed to make sure that this particular kid needed to get into his house. She went on with something along the lines of, "That's your responsibility, specifically?"
"To the best of my knowledge, yes it is."
"That's not how they do it on my bus."
That completely confused me. By 'my' bus, did she mean: A) the bus she rode as a child; B) the bus her child(ren)(?) ride(s); or C) the bus she, herself, drives? Nevertheless, I forged on. "All the children on this bus have special needs. I need to make sure they get into their homes safely."
"[words to the effect of her still refusing to get it]"
*mental facepalm* 'Okay, I'm done with you now.' Very politely: "If you would like to talk to my supervisor about it, I can give you the number."
"Yes. Yes, I would like that."
And so I got her the number off my phone. I didn't see her write it down, though she did repeat the last few digits to me, so if she remembered that it also suggests she remembered my bus number, if she thought to look at it. (I did think of telling her to remember it so she could be sure she mentioned the right bus, but thought better of it; I needed to be on my way. Besides, it may have been just a little too flippant.) In any case, she left, my associate and I shared a nice "WTF" moment, and life went on.
In the end, I was more amused than anything. Had I been thinking quickly enough, I might've pointed out that she, too, was blocking the road by stopping to talk to me, or that, given that I was transporting other people's children, I felt I could be forgiven for being as cautious as possible, but again, those might've fit into the "too flippant" category; it's probably for the best. I have no doubt that, if she actually did get around to calling in, my supervisors would have set her straight. As in, I do need to make sure the kids are capable of entering their own houses, and we have exhausted all our resources for trying to get this particular kid's front door unlocked earlier (aside from spontaneous occurrences).
* Friday, most recent: I saw a garter snake while on my almost-daily walk! More than the blooming of the little blue flowers whose name I have completely undermined my confidence in spelling correctly, more than robins and daffodils and violets, this told me it is indeed spring: the cold-blooded reptiles are coming out of hibernation! (The frogs were also a good hint, but it was still pretty damn cool to see.)
* Past few weeks in general: I'm on a Tamora Pierce re-reading spree! Tortall first, then the Circle of Magic universe. Mmmmm, good stuff ♥ Managed to finish off several books in a single day each, though I haven't exactly kept the pace, 'specially with HG/SS out. Still, might make it through everything by summer; reading ahoy!
What does tomorrow hold, aside from another day of work, more Pokémon junkie-ness, and the rest of Lady Knight? Who knows :P Guess I'll find out when I get there.

Date: 2010-03-30 03:20 am (UTC)Man, my response would probably be a super polite version of "I drive a BUS. Deal with it, lady." |D;
Yesss, Tamora Pierce. I should probably reread a bunch too, almost forgot how much I adore Circle of Magic.
