Seriously though, I totally respect everyone who went out and watched the episodes early. I just... won't be doing the same ¦D And I definitely appreciate everyone keeping spoilery things under cuts for those of us who are Saving Ourselves (note the pretentious extra capitals). T-though it would also be kinda nice if you were to, yanno, not use episode names outside of cuts? C-cuz just rifling through my f'list buildup today I think I may have been an eensy bit majorly spoilered for upcoming events DD: Not that I'm angry or anything! Just, yanno, maybe for the future? Especially if it's something hugely relevant to the plot? 'Cuz yeah. T-thanks guys ;_;b
Thoughts on Storm Hawks 1x21:
...Okay no, most of what this episode did was make me ship some really cracked-out things, and in some cases continue to ship some really cracked-out things. I will address them here!
* I continue to mini-ship Aerrow x Starling. Or at least Aerrow → Starling, because man does he ever have a massive fanboy crush on her. And I totally love the "older woman topping you" dynamic, okay, shut up. Which, between that, the somewhat more than obvious Piper → Starling fangirling, and general tendency of people around me/the canon suggesting eventual Piper x Aerrow, I kinda feel a little hard-pressed not to give in to the urge to OT3.
* With that out of the way, Ravess/Finn musical hatesex anyone? I can see the badfic now! Harmonic Chords: Finn is tired of Ravess always playing classical music and teaches her to -rock-. -His- way. Except with worse spelling and grammar and an even cheesier title. I"m sorry, I can't come up with badfic imitations on demand!
* A more canon-acknowledging part of me totally shipped Ravess with that sniveling little blond guy who has a distinct air of "vice-villain of the day". It's that toppy chick tops vibe again :/ Except with less self-respect on the party that bottoms in this one.
* Okay, I've got Starling x Ravess written here, but I can't for the life of me remember why. I'll just trust that it was a fairly okay reason, and by fairly okay I mean "not actually because of cough syrup".
* For the record! Finn's guitar melody? Not terrible! His vocal melody? AWFUL.
* Ahahahahaha, Finn broke his G-string XD (STFU, it could totally be the 'g' string.) On that note, WTF is with that guitar having only three strings, it isn't right.
And now, because this episode got me thinking on it, my headcanon for Starling is as follows: In no particular order...
* Starling became a sky knight in her mid teens (I wanna say at sixteen, so she's badass and awesome, but Aerrow still breaks her record); since she "graduated" at such a young age, she was strongly encouraged to join an existing squadron rather than trying to form her own. She agreed under protest.
* The Interceptors were among the first or only squadrons to offer her a place in their ranks. They worked more stealth and infiltration than most squadrons, but still did a fair amount of flashy work.
* She was the youngest person on the team for quite a while; because of this, she got more "looking after" than she felt she deserved. The day she proved herself worthy to the rest of her team remains one of her happiest.
* Probably because of her age, Starling tended to fight and fly a bit more recklessly than the rest of her team.
* Starling had a bit of a crush on her team leader, but rarely noticed it; she was usually too caught up in being a sky knight.
* Repton caught the Interceptors as they were making a getaway when a spy mission went rather bad rather quickly. Starling was not the first to go down or the last. She suffered an indirect hit, and her parachute got caught on a protruding branch low down on a rocky outcropping, concealing her from view. Repton assumed she had perished with the rest of her team, took their crest and left. Starling dangled on that tree for three days before she was found by a rescue team. Her left arm, the one Repton's shot resulted in breaking, still aches sometimes in hot, dry places.
* Starling has been working independently for at least a year since then. She doesn't seem interested in forming a new team on her own, or re-forming the Interceptors. The Storm Hawks are the first team she's really acknowledged since the Interceptors were killed.
* Starling at least knew and respected the original Storm Hawks in passing, even if she didn't know them personally.
On a completely different note, watched the first episode of the Ookiku Furikabutte (OoFuri) anime before coming to the lab today. I am completely won over (though I had again forgotten how much of a dick Abe-kun is in the first few chapters/episodes/whatever). The opening and ending songs make me happy inside for no reason at all. And can I say that I love the voice actors chosen? 'Cuz I do.
I will admit to being a little bothered by the manager at first, thinking she had been 'softened' in the anime, but as the episode went on it occurred to me that she really struck me as more of a complete strong female character than a lot of other female characters I see in anime. A lot of the characters in my favorite shows are either impeded by the glass ceiling, or go so far in the other direction that it's hard to remember the original point. And many times they still end up needing to rely on men because they, as girls, aren't good enough. And yeah. ...I don't think I'm wording this very well, but I think she might have a certain core strength and self-reliance that I either missed in the manga or that wasn't there before.
BUT that's just what I think ¦D Feel free to agree/refute at your leisure.
On a good note, my cold is clearing up! I feel better than I did on Saturday or Sunday, though still a little icky. Wheeeere did I put my decongestant? DD: My lips have really dried out from having to breathe through my mouth, too. I'm not letting it get me down, though!
Oh, plus I have a job interview tomorrow. It's for a house cleaning service, and the actual work won't start until December, but it's still a step in the right direction. Wish meluck leg-breaking?

IT IS, he needs to get voice lessons or something DD: (See, this is why the Storm Hawks could never be a band. Finn would insist on singing at least back-up vocals, except you'd always be able to hear him over the lead vocalist, and everyone would hate it.
