S-so. I seem to have accidentally uninstalled and deleted whatever software it was that allowed me to play and watch DVDs on my computer in my frantic computer-cleaning of A Little While Ago. That is, I can load the disc into the DVD drive, but it will fail to play on either of my players. Given that I have played DVDs on this computer before, and even tried with a specific DVD that I've used on this one before, I'm pretty sure it was a program.

...Anyone have anything they can recommend to me here?

Edit: Going back and looking through, WMP claims lack of DVD Decrypter. This is quite possible. If someone can't suggest a good free one, I guess I'll probably be borrowing a Harry Potter DVD from home, as at least one of those came with one. Not paying for things = helpful to me.

Edit 2: Never mind! MPC seems to be working for me again now! Thank God, seriously @_@

If your computer came with CDs, I'd suggest looking through them for perhaps drivers that look applicable or dvd playing software that can be reinstalled.

Beyond that I uh... don't know. You can open DVDs in VLC but it's kind of hackery.

What system are you running?

...ahhh, wait, if the players are still there but you can't play, you probably uninstalled the codec. Hang on...

...okay, I can't be of that much help without knowing what system you're on, but what you're looking for, I think, is probably the MPEG-2 codec. If you're on a Mac, you can probably find it for free somewhere on the apple website. On a windows... I'm not so sure. But yes.
