I am not the person to talk to when it comes to talking one out of getting extra pets (especially when they're adoptions) because our apartment is basically a Noah's Ark for rodents. And heck, if lonely white rat was closer to me and you couldn't take him- I would. Because my heart goes out to the little guy as well. XD
But if you're not able to get the ones listed on petfinder- try craigslist for your local city and search in the pets section. We got a beautiful and sweet rabbit complete with her cage and supplies for free off Craigslist since her owner was moving away to college.
