Crafts and rats

soc_puppetH'okay, let's make it official, at least: It appears that I will in no way, shape or form be following through on my "twelve days of stuff" plan. Oh, well! Now that that's off my chest, time to move on to other things! Things like...
Crochet!
These here are some mutant mittens I've been working on for a while now. Well, I've finally finished them (my first pair, at least), and I wanted to shaaaare :DDD
Lefty and Righty are on the appropriate sides here. Each split mitten has gotten many names over the time I've been working on them (and they took a long time too, mostly due to both my own sloth and my choice of using an F hook and some really tiny yarn to make these). Lefty has been dubbed the Tabi Glove, the Archery Glove, the TMNT Hand Glove, the Live Long and Prosper Tutorial, and probably more that I don't know about. Righty I've mostly had to name on my own, so it's got Webshot Fingers, Sailor Moon Pose Tutorial, Rock Out and/or I Love You. (For the life of me I cannot remember whether this could make Hook 'Em Horns or not. Mom, I fail your Texan roots!)
Neither of them is very good for typing, or for flipping the bird.
These done, I decided to follow up with a slightly more practical pair, using thicker yarn and an H hook. ...Or was it an I hook? iHook? Well, whatever, they took less time regardless.
Objection gloves! I'm rather more fond of these ones for practicality, and probably also for looks, but the first pair will likely have me at sentimental always. Anywho, still can't type with these, but I can give someone the finger with surprising effectiveness.
I'm going to try for some yellow and blue bear-paw typing gloves next, I think.
WHILE WE'RE ON CROCHET. I actually do have a good number of those snowflakes what I mentioned all made up, and even a number of envelopes filled out, I just. H-haven't gotten around to putting them in the mailbox yet. Possibly this is due to indecision over whether I should include a note or anything, and if so what, and possibly it is due to not having transportation to a mailbox. Though probably this building has something I can send mail out in. If I remember right. ...I'll have to ask my roommates.
ALSO, while looking up info for making a pattern for the snowflakes, I stumbled upon the concept of Amigurumi! And this delightful tutorial site, which has helped me learn more names for stuff I'd already been doing (and apparently been doing ever-so-slightly wrong - h-haha, decreasing, er). I'm probably eventually going to get around to making Amigurumi Kodama, with heads that actually spin and rattle. Because somehow it seems more fun than making them from cloth.
Duct Tape:
Ever since that $20 pair of boots I picked up from K-mart turned out to not be all I had hoped for, I started thinking about alternatives to either wearing them, or soaking my feet. Making my own boots probably would've been better, but I still need to get a pair of shoes to use for a base. (Real cheap ones, probably.)
In other news, Ari has an ear infection DD: Took him to the vet's this morning since he had a bit of a head tilt going, and they confirmed my guess and gave me some antibiotics and a painkiller for him to take. The course'll run two weeks, though if he gets worse I'll need to take him in. Sadly, while there is a good chance that the antibiotics will at least help the head tilt some, the vet said that in her experience, only 30% of rats ever lost it completely. Still, she did say that rats with head tilts seemed to do fairly well - and given that Ari still has most of his coordination even with the infection, I'm inclined to take her word for it.
So cheer up, Ari! Get better! First meds dose tonight so I can get on an every-twelve-hours schedule I can keep when work starts again, okay? Okay.
