Just sent a request to join racism_101. Due to recent events*, a lot of continuing issues with race have finally been kicking me in the head - since that's what it usually takes for me to notice them, a fact of which I am not proud. I'm aware that I need work, and hopefully I will be able to get some of it done there. I have done some by myself, but it's an incredible relief to know that I'm not the only one having this problem (on more than just an intellectual level), and to potentially have people there who can help me see my own issues.

So hopefully I'll be approved to join (I can't think why not, but there could be something I haven't thought of), and I'll be able to take some of the Naive out of my Naive White Girl status. Even if I don't/can't, I'll still be able to watch, and I'm sure that will give me a lot to think about on its own.


....There's this somewhat related thing that I'm wondering if I shouldn't be calling conspiracy over, but uh. That would take admitting what the thing was, and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about doing that ._.a




* For anyone not already involved or aware of the issues, I cannot recommend the summaries enough (I found this one especially good, and printed out my own copy). I'd also suggest checking out some of the posts that started RaceFail '09 in the first place, as they provide important context, but the summaries can give you a real good gist without them.

No worries, a lot of other people are still finding out about it, too ;) And I hadn't really seen much about it in our "corner of the neighborhood" anyway, so I thought it might help to bring it up myself. Spread awareness and all that.
