Crafty progress

Charity piece is finished and shipped off as of Saturday; it should arrive sometime later this week. I learned important lessons while making it, namely: don't bother crocheting in the round for something that's two colors divided lengthwise. I know crocheting in rows is more ridged, which annoys me a bit, but it'll turn out for the best in the end not to have way too many layers of crochet anyway.
Patchwork dragon is also finished, and the arduous process of transcribing the pattern has begun. I'm maybe a quarter done, and haven't even begun to address the multitude of pictures I took throughout the process. I'm also transcribing it in what seems to be a more traditional "instructional" type of direction sharing rather than my traditional plain listing of rows, increases, and decreases. It's definitely more nuanced work, and I'll admit I miss doing things the simple way. Still, I want people to pay money for it, so I'll be doing the best I can.
Sephiroth-pony is now about 75-80% finished. I've been calling him Sephy-kins, because it amuses me. I still need to make the shoulder-plate dealies, his chest straps, and paint and glue his eyes and cutie mark. Honestly, I'm sorta putting off his cutie mark as long as I can; it's cut off in the picture and the closest I and the friends I've consulted thus far, including his commissioner, have come to guessing what it is is "A sword on some sort of green field". Which, uh. More information would be good, I would think. Anyway, I asked one of said friends to message the artist on my behalf, since I don't want to get a dA account anyway, let alone just to try and contact someone; I'm currently waiting anxiously for a response from the artist so we can hopefully work things out, and possibly I'll be able to ask about what Seph's cutie mark is anyhow. Possibly this will include some sort of compensation on my part (god I hope they'd be okay with crocheted stuff instead of money), and possibly also as well some sort of commission (again on my part) for Zack-pony art, if only so I don't need to make and justify color choices. (I would pick purple.) I'm really quite grateful that I've been saving the FFVII pony collection's clothing patterns, since I imagine Zack will be dressed in much the same way as Cloud. Plus I'm prepared when/if anyone else wants their own ponies.
I think I'm going to abandon my half-thought-out plans to crochet a half-pony, half-monkey monsterto please you for my solo in the Quire cabaret. Instead, I think I'll pick up a bunch of mismatched pony and monkey toys from a secondhand store, break them as appropriate, and hot glue the pieces together; I think it'll look much more monstrous, and it'll leave me free to crochet something that might be more likely to sell well. Or maybe I'll just put up Patchwork Dragon for the silent auction instead. (Patchwork Dragon is also nicknamed Consolation Dragon. I enunciated "Constellation Dragon" poorly at one of the gamin sessions, and gaming friend E latched onto it immediately, quoting conciliatory phrases as the dragon. I'm pretty amused by the idea myself, and E likes it so much he's stated that he's prepared to find and purchase one of those recording dealies so you can squeeze the dragon and it'll repeat a random conciliatory phrase in his voice. I'm not entirely sure how I'd manage to put the device in the dragon at this point, short of undoing some sewing and some stitching, but I like the thought enough that I might go that far. Hopefully any of that will be minimal.)
I'm not entirely sure what I'll be crocheting next. As I mentioned, I do want to have something crocheted for the cabaret's silent auction, though I'm not sure what, or even that I won't just offer something I've already made. Otherwise, I've got the Asian-style dragon and the griffin next on my professional pattern list, and I'll need to take pictures of both of those as I go; I did manage to get a lot of necessary pictures of number of necessary pictures taken while I was making the brown griffin, though I missed the popcorn toes and will need to make at least another rear leg to get that taken care of. I figure, as long as I'm crocheting it anyway, why not go ahead and make a whole griffin? I've been wanting to make a pointed griffin for a little while now, and I'm pretty sure I've got the right shades of brown and cream, not to mention the blue eyes. I suppose a Homestuck-style fairy bull would be next on my "for fun"/free pattern list, though I have actually gotten a request(!) on my crochet blog for Lion King characters.
Speaking of
hooked_on_anime, I really need to get off my lazy bum and reply to comments; it's not getting any less late for any of them. *sigh* I also need to get Jig's pattern up, and my more recent finished product pics up on
hooked_on_anime_gallery. Right now, though, I need something to eat.
