soc_puppet | Happy Birthday to Me!

Greetings, all! Today is the twenty-seventh anniversary of the joyous occasion of my birth :3b Here are some things that I have gotten/ways I have celebrated:

* My finances were doing better than I thought they were, and also I worked about thirteen extra hours this week, so I went out and treated myself to a 16 gig Nook HD+, what with them being on sale and all. I also got some screen protectors, and was quite thankful for the instructions provided. Purchasing and registering a Nook apparently came (comes?) with $5.00 to spend in the store, so long as I do so by Wednesday (five days after purchase/activation, give or take).

So far I have mostly downloaded fanfiction onto it, and installed the Duolingo app. I am hoping to pick French back up, and also thought it would be nice to watch, say, any of the latest season of The Legend of Korra sometime soon. (While I could technically have streamed it on either my desktop or my laptop, they are both rather old and have difficulty keeping up with such things. It is my hope that the Nook will fare better.) At some point, I plan to dig through the actual warrantee and, if possible, a copy of the "store" warrantee to compare and contrast and see if that $35 is really worth it. The cashier said the expensive one covered accidental damage, but I want to be sure.

* I came home from work today to find an exceptionally large package on the kitchen table. The outside read, "Happy Birthday! To [Socchan], ♥ Mom, Dad, [Brother], Grandma." I had hinted pretty strongly at a particular item, and was entirely delighted to see exactly what I had asked for when I pulled the cover off: A KitchenAid stand mixer. It is glorious. I could practically kiss it! That would be unsanitary, though, so I've settled for stroking it reverently and kissing my family instead. (Mom's the only one home at the moment, but I'll catch Dad and [Brother] later. Grandma lives out of state, so I'll almost certainly be blowing her a kiss over the phone.)

The mixer itself is silver-y colored (sorta pewter with a shine to it?) with white attachments. I kinda want to put decals all over it, or maybe get a custom paint job, but that would probably also be unsanitary, so. I am giving serious thought to baking All The Bread and/or All The Things, though. Not just now, seeing as I've only been home from my job of baking for about an hour, but I'll definitely be giving it a test-drive sometime soon, you can bet on it. In the mean time, I'll be paging through the instruction/safety manual while my laundry is going.

* At work today, I got out two hours earlier than usual, which was probably only coincidence and not actually because it was my birthday. There were some cake scraps available, though, and as soon as I got to a good stopping point in my work, I snuck off with a bit of it for a Cake Break :Db

* Half-Price Books gave me a "15% off your entire purchase!" coupon for my birthday that expires in two weeks, and they've got a "40% off, or $15 off if it's $15 or more" coupon going on today and tomorrow, so I might swing by there after work tomorrow afternoon and see if they have anything I want.

* Once I get my load of laundry in the drier, I think I will give myself the gift of a nap. (Stayed up too late reading fanfiction off the Nook last night ^^a) Ah, sleep...
