So my aunt's on life support, and will be taken off sometime after my grandfather gets there to say "good-bye". The funeral will be on Wednesday or Thursday. I'll likely be leaving tomorrow afternoon for a long, long drive, a short stay, and then a long, long drive back.
My last trip down to Texas was miserable. (Not because of the company; because of the realities of travel, wherein I was on the road/otherwise traveling for five of the seven days and got very little real sleep. Either way, it was one of the things that I think kicked off this bout of depression.) I don't know how much more restful this trip will be, since we're likely to be staying in hotels most of the time instead of me stuck in major living/socializing spaces with little control over temperature, but I guess I'll find out. Since Mom and Dad are retired and not drawing any income, I volunteered to pay for at least some of the hotel stays, and my brother offered to pay for gas. I've got a reasonable chunk of money saved up at the moment, so if we stick to one room at relatively cheap hotels, I think I'll be okay.
On the heartwarming side: My aunt's younger son was going to graduate high school this Friday. His principal found out what was happening, and volunteered to deliver his diploma to him tomorrow at my aunt's bedside, with my cousin wearing his cap and gown and everything, so she can "be there" for his graduation.
Anyway. Leaving tomorrow afternoon, no later than two, possibly earlier, and I said I'd be good to work tomorrow morning (I'm opening), so I need to pack and then sleep. Dunno how good I'll be at responding to anything, considering.
