Update dance, yeah~

1) Had an interview with Barnes & Noble last Thursday; they said they'd get back to me early this week. I'm so so so hoping to hear positive things from them, and soon.

2) I'm thinking of doing a Shakesville "friending"/adding meme either tomorrow (well, later today, I suppose) or Wednesday, hosted on and central to Dreamwidth. (A special hello/wave to the Shakers I've already added over here ^_~) It probably won't be too fancy, since I don't know a lot about the making of such things, but I thought it might be fun to connect with other Shakers over here :)

3) Speaking of Shakesville, today's Question of the Day is yielding some awesome ideas. If I but had the resources to put behind more of these. Sadly, I'll have to stick to my own ideas for now.

4) In a Convenient Segue x2 Combo, I got some politics planned out for my NaNo project the other day :Db Or, well, some of the more immediate politics, at least. It'd still be a relatively good idea to get at least an idea of the history of the region, particularly why Country A has it out for Country B. "It's all because of the money/resources" would certainly work in a pinch, but I do kinda want a bit more than that. *shrug* I'll have to see what I can come up with.

5) If you've been around a while, you may already be aware that I sing in The Quire (don't know why the website isn't updated yet; maybe once they get the next program art). Among the songs we're singing for this year's winter concert is the ever-popular "Deck The Halls". Because of this, I now know that the first verse ends with the words "troll the ancient Yuletide carol".

Sadly, I have not been able to convince our directors to let us Rickroll the audience immediately after that verse. I suppose I could ask if we could have the song's title printed in |337 in the program book instead, but I'm not thinking that'll have any more success. Oh, well.

Maybe I could get some friends together to do that with me instead...

5a) This is the definition of troll the song is probably using, but I'm hardly going to let that stop me.

6) You know, I probably could've gotten my Convenient Segue Combo up to x5 for this entry if I'd started with Shakesville, put 1 under 4, and mentioned that B&N is hiring for the holiday season (Shakesville adding → Shakesville creative project ideas → my NaNo project → bookstore possibly hiring [for holiday rush] → holiday music), but re-numbering everything and adding a few words was totes more work than writing out a sixth thing, so I did this instead ;)

How does one get involved in the Quire (i.e., when are rehearsals, what membership fee is involved, etc.)? I've been looking for a way to get back into singing, and a choir seems like a good start since I can't afford voice lessons right now.

Rehearsals are usually Sunday nights from 6:00 through 8:30 (with a 15 minute snack break around 7:15). We do have a final rehearsal the night before our concerts, but that's about it. Dues are $40 a semester, and there's a one-time fee of ~$30 for a folder. There's no auditions unless you're trying out for a solo part. Usually there's one concert a semester, plus a cabaret (mini-concert-thing with lotsa solos/small group songs) every other(?) spring - we are doing one this year. There are usually two or three other opportunities to sing a semester for various reasons; we usually sing for the U of I's MLK Day celebration thing, for example, and sometimes we're invited to sing a song or two at various churches or other celebrations (Iowa City/Ceder Rapids Pride events, weddings, welcoming nights, etc).

I think that's everything? It's a little late to join the fall/winter semester, I'm pretty sure, but around mid-January we'll be opening up for the spring semester. I'm pretty sure we'll be putting up fliers for new members/ads in the paper around then, and I can always let you know in person :) Our concerts are free, if you'd like to attend our next one; I think it's December 3rd-ish? We also need help from volunteers to be ushers and such, if you're interested :)

For now definitely, yeah. I'm not entirely sure when I want to make the transition, really :/ I'll need to give it more thought.

It's really difficult to make the transition. A lot of my friends did get dreamwidth accounts but everyone is still pretty much here, and the communities are here. Even when they open parallel communities on DW they're just not kept up, you know?

Mm, yeah, it's definitely a problem :/ Probably the defining problem, even. Still, maybe the potential Shakesville adding meme will help bolster activity at least a bit? Or at least the feeling of community. I know I'm used to having a huge reading list, and populating mine a bit would definitely help me feel more "at home" ^^a We'll see what happens, I guess.
