Because apparently I have Thoughts on Bakerix and Oni-chan
First note on Bakerix! In French, there are two different words for "baker" (both of which I am probably misspelling, as it's been a decade and I don't feel like googling): Boulanger, who makes bread, and Patissier, who makes pastries. (Hence Tom and Sabine's Boulangerie and Patisserie; because they make everything!) Grandpa Dupain is specifically a bread maker. (Also Boulangerix makes much more sense as an akumatized villain name than "Bakerix" for exactly that reason, and I am sad I didn't even know it was an option until I heard it on the episode.)
Preeeeeetty sure the Romans didn't have tomatoes 23+ generations ago. (Yes, he says "great" 23 times. I counted them.)
Rice flour in wheat bread is uh. I'm reasonably sure that'll make it go crunchy/stale faster? Then again, I'm pretty sure I heard that folks in Europe (and probably especially France) tend to buy their food to eat the day of, so they're less likely to worry about bread going stale. I also haven't worked a whole lot with alternative flours :|a
That said, Chinese bao-ze (spelling? HALP!), probably their oldest "bread", is made with rice flour, IIRC. Again, something you'd probably eat the day of, and also steamed instead of baked. So rice flour may have been a way for Tom to incorporate more of Sabine's heritage and influence in the bakery. ...Pretty sure it's also a really, really old, traditional bread, but don't know for certain offhand. So yeah, definitely not ruling out racism as a possible influence here.
Major points to Marinette for remembering to turn off the oven!
The first person CN helps off the train is a fan of his! Cool!
"*sigh* They don't make grates like they used to!"
Oni-chan (or Onichan? IDK)
Going only off the episode's title, I would have expected this to be something featuring Kagami having a protective older brother. I've been spoiled just enough to know that's not the case, and also be annoyed that they didn't go with Oniko or something instead. Unless they're trying to imply closeted trans guy Kagami here, which has potential to be cool, but also an angst fest, since Kagami's mother's school of fencing is pretty explicitly for girls/women; the kanji used is literally "female" with one of the strokes replaced with a fencing foil. (I cottoned on to Kagami being female-coded pretty early on in Riposte, if you couldn't tell.)
Starting off! Alya face-palming with glasses is, uh. Well, it's a thing!
Whoops, looks like the math thing is canon; gotta go adjust a fic! (Is the physics thing canon, or just fanon? And what are Marinette's best/worst subjects? I like to stick to canon whenever I can.)
WTF, how did Lila get Gabriel's phone number. Edit: And then not recognize it later in the episode? ...Unless that's Adrien's phone she snatched and selfie'd with?
...FML, the translator of the subs I'm watching is actually using Onii-chan to refer to Kagami's akumatization. Translator, I sympathize, but this is still not helping my poor, poor brain.
You know, this would be the perfect episode for Alya to catch Lila lying hardcore about being Ladybug's BFF. L was outright scornful of LB to Adrien, in addition to dumping on LB to her face and telling Roger that LB hadn't come to protect her.
Love the Pinocchio effect of Lila's horn. Shame she didn't keep it after.
Suuuper weird to see Gabriel flip-flopping on Lila.
Overall, yeah; this episode could've treated Kagami better. I would've liked to see her less visibly going into a rage and/or going more sad-angry, and just generally more in control of her emotional expression. I mean, it is established canon that she gets angry when she's frustrated or disappointed, but that freakout definitely seemed more in the style of Chloe, Marinette, or Lila, who are all visibly more emotional than Kagami tends to be. (...Weird that it's all Adrein's fangirls who do that.)
Good to see Adrien getting more of a clue about Lila, at least. It's seeming likely that the Lila Issue will be a season-long storyline, possibly to be resolved by the next season (I hope, I hope!).
Those are my thoughts! Time for editing now.
