Tiger Beatdown - #MooreandMe: And Then He Came Down [Trigger Warning: Discussion of rape, rape culture, apologism, some personal story sharing in the comments]
I do believe in Solstice miracles, I do, I do! (Ignore, for the moment, that the Solstice was, like, two days ago.)
After this, would it be too much to hope that he someday makes a documentary about rape culture, do you think? Probably, but I've got a little matchstick's worth of hope burning for it anyway now.
In any case: Sady Doyle? You fucking rock. And I think I might have to start watching this Rachel Maddow person's show now...

Date: 2010-12-23 04:39 am (UTC)Anyway. If Moore maybe spent a couple of years studying up on it and included a line on how it's so insidious, even he got caught up in it, it might not be 100% made of fail. Realistically, I wouldn't expect it to be more than basic 101 at most (if that), should such a documentary be made. Even if he didn't include how he got caught up in it himself, I'd probably appreciate it for actually suggesting to a wide audience that rape culture might exist.
On the other hand, there's no reason someone else (someone better) can't do it instead. Now watch me sob as at least a dozen prominent progressive women do so, and then the documentaries get kept out of the big theaters and such until a man makes one :(

Date: 2010-12-23 05:09 am (UTC)I suppose it mostly occurred to me because documentaries are what he does, and it would suggest (to me) that he was thinking about it after just this week of activism. You are quite correct, however; there are many more ways he could demonstrate this.
My apologies for having under-thought the topic, and thus that there definitely would be many documentaries on the subject, by people who can say it better, and have. (I would have said "probably", but you've just told me there's at least one, so we're into actualities now.) My erasure of their efforts and products was thoughtless and hurtful. I will try to think more before I post in the future.
