Pokémon blather
Jan. 2nd, 2011 09:04 pmSo! Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs 8Db
I've beaten the main storyline, and some of the post-main storyline-ish bits, so now I'm onto playing out the past, collecting all the Pokémon I haven't gotten yet, and finishing the quests.
Currently I'm quite distracted by the quest "Ranger Contest" (listed fourteenth here). I have all of the Pokémon except for Honchkrow. Blasted thing keeps flying into the clouds or out of the damn region before I can catch up with it, and that's with Legendary transportation. That fucker... Argh. Maybe I should just try and get the damn thing in the past and forward it to the present. I won't see it until the Dark Temple, and I'm still on Forest Temple, so it'll take for-fucking-ever, but at least I wouldn't be tooth-itchingly frustrated over it flying away YET AGAIN.
*sigh* Well, maybe if I just wail away at the stuff in the past, it'll take less time than I think. That'll probably put me in a good level range for the tentatively planned Deoxys-a-thon next Saturday. Let's see, I've got the three other games of my own I can transfer it to, since it's transferable more than once, and then the friend I'll be playing with has his own game, and probably his sister's as well... That's a minimum of five Deoxys. God I hope the mission doesn't take forever.

Date: 2011-01-03 04:38 am (UTC)Make sure to get online and grab the Shaymin, Giratina, and Arceus missions. :D :D :D
I freakin' love Pokemon Ranger. I think I like it better than the core Pokemon games, which is Saying Something.

Date: 2011-01-03 05:01 am (UTC)Guardian Signs is my first Ranger game, and I'm completely charmed ♥ I'm not sure yet how I feel about the pacing (I felt less like I could take time off for sidequests than in the core games), but the characters, the plot, the puzzles - so enjoyable! Makes me wonder what the fandom is like for it :)

Date: 2011-01-03 03:46 pm (UTC)I just got the last three (Shaymin, Arceus, Giratina - that last was a surprise) and haven't run them yet. That may have something to do with me being level 8. ^^;
I have no idea what the fandom is like .. hmm, maybe worth investigation. I've seen all of one Ranger cosplay, so I suspect it is not large or not vocal.
I get annoyed with the pacing, because of the OMG endless tutorials. Grah. But I like the games well enough to forgive them that and keep playing.

Date: 2011-01-03 06:10 pm (UTC)I suspect the same :/ Methinks a bit of digging is in order...
X3 Oh yeah, the constant tutorials. I'm more amused by them than anything at the moment, though I can't say I cared entirely for how they were set up. I would've preferred "learn by doing" to "learn by watching".

Date: 2011-01-03 06:20 pm (UTC)I'll have to put this Ranger!Manaphy with my other one. I'm getting a small collection of them.
With you on the 'learn by doing' thing! They did that in both the earlier games, too - by the way I counted it, I was still seeing tutorials halfway through Shadows of Almia. (Which had the single most irritating bad-guy group I've seen yet in a Pokemon game, mostly due to their long, stupid, and unskippable intro, which they insisted upon doing every. time. they. appear.)
I really liked Shadows of Almia, but Guardian Signs is all-around better.

Date: 2011-01-03 07:31 pm (UTC)I have no such collection :( I did manage to trade for a Manaphy a while back (apparently there's some exploitable glitch somehow that involves the World Trade Center, and the friend from up-post suggested that the person I got it from was possibly trying to exploit that), so I don't exactly need it for a complete 'dex, but I like giving my Pokémon nicknames, so.
Urk, thanks for the heads up on that. I got a copy of Shadows of Almia secondhand a while back, though I haven't started playing it yet. (Hmm; kinda reminds me of a certain animated duo - though they tended to change theirs up pretty consistently after a while. I imagine that's not the case with SoA?)
BTW, no luck so far on the Ranger fandom front. The closest I've found is are two LJ comms: one for Pokémon game-centric fics, where the first page features only fics for the core games, and there's effectively no us of the "Ranger" tag; and another for Ranger specifically that hasn't been updated in thirty-two weeks. *sigh* No luck at AO3 or here (that I can tell), and I'm extremely reluctant to dip my toes in at FF.net :/

Date: 2011-01-04 04:03 pm (UTC)They don't change it up, not really, but at least they aren't as rage-inducing as Galactic was. (At least not for me. Sweet Arceus on a pogo stick, Galactic cheesed me off SO BAD.)
I remember at the penultimate battle being all "oh good they finally dropped that %$^$) intro."
Aww, that's kind of a bummer. :(
Thanks for letting me know - I too am extremely reluctant to delve into FF.net, and the last time I was involved in the roleplaying side of the Pokemon fandom at all was years and years ago, so I don't even have any of my contacts any more.

Date: 2011-01-06 05:36 am (UTC)Ahaha, I don't really remember Galactic all that well, to tell the truth ^^a Probably started blanking it out and just mashing A after a while.
You know, if there were any characters I particularly shipped, I'd be tempted to make an entry on

They can hook you up with all sorts of goodies, but sometimes they offer clones rather than legit downloads. :\
Galactic made me rageface. There are a few things (outside the realm of politics) that make me do that, but animal abuse is one of them - like, 0-SIX SMASH in no time. And Galactic's hijinks with draining a lake and leaving all those poor flopping Magikarp... D:
If I'd had the option to walk up to one, press A and use a Poke Ball, I would have saved every single one. Fortunately, you did get to trounce the folks that did it, but still. *snarl*
I have got to check out that LJ comm when I'm not at work. As it is, I'm rather afraid to click the link. X3

Date: 2011-01-06 05:55 pm (UTC)No I'm not, actually; I may have to check that out. Though now that I think of it, I probably screwed up a cloning attempt when I got my first Manaphy X3 "You want a lv 100 Charizard [female]? Well heck, I just so happen to have a lv 83 Charizard [female] and a ridiculous number of Rare Candies; I can totally do that :Db"
I totally would've done the same thing for the Magikarp :( (Those poor babies T-T) If I'd had the patience, I might also have been tempted to train one up and subsequently wail on them with the resulting Gyrados, but that didn't happen, so :/
Oh man, Porn and Kittens is amazing XD The basic premise is, you write a post flaming the shit out of something you love and/or want to see more of, and comm members respond with the typical tactics of spamming you with "revenge" smutlets and/or animal macros. It's definitely on the NSFW side, though.

Hee, yeah. That would've been poetic justice.
OK, I think I have to join that comm. X3

Date: 2011-01-06 09:57 pm (UTC)What I did was sprint, stop and turn when it does, sprint again, turn again. It's fast and takes a bunch of practice, but when you finally nab it, it is so satisfying.
