I'm fairly certain credit goes to my dad (who has a fairly active social life, and is just finishing up a Zoom meeting about changing who our county is named after from a horrible racist to someone actually cool).

Even better: He's part of a committee of likeminded folks, and the meeting today was to try and decide which cooler person they want to advocate for 😁 So it'll be more than just him fighting the good fight! With any luck, our county will soon be re-named after either a disabled white dude who did some good ally work or a Black woman who earned a doctorate really early on in the state's history. (I think that's the basics of the two we're picking between...)

That is awesome! Sounds like they have good candidates (namesakes?); I wish them well with their debating and choosing!

My county's apparently named for the governor of a different state, which... wow, guys, were you desperate or was he paying you under the table? Though I'm pretty sure they were desperate; this state has WAY too many counties. (I am biased, having grown up in a state with at-least-equivalent landmass and 600% fewer counties. Nobody needs that many!)
