Don't lose heart! Someday there will be coffee again, I'm sure of it! *cue: sunset, cliff, wave crashing in the background, etc*
Argh; I want to say that it's too late for me to have to think about how food and international cuisine interplays with privilege and cultural appropriation, but that's privilege in itself, so /)_(\ I guess I will just say that playing up authenticity just for coolness points is a total asshole move, made even more so when whoever is doing it doesn't even bother to find out whether it's actually authentic in the first place. Learning to take place tomorrow, perhaps.
Oh, Orscheln's is a relatively local store chain that mostly carries farm supplies (but some also for pets and some clothes and stuff). It is a place where it is not entirely surprising that they play Country (Western?) music in the background every open hour. Right now we are also selling baby farm birds and bunnies :) I do hope all the bunnies end up going to responsible families/farms. And the farm birds, really, but there's somewhat less of a stereotype about people buying baby turkeys for their kids for Easter and then dropping them off at the shelter or releasing them or something than there is for rabbits, so. I'm slightly -less- worried about them, I guess?
