soc_puppet: Words "Mad Fangirl" in blue (Mad Fangirl)

Since my last post went up on Dreamwidth while LJ was still under heavy DDoS attack, everyone over in LJ Land probably missed the facts that: 1) I moved out of my apartment this week, and 2) This weekend is AnimeIowa weekend (the con I staff). So that's what's been going on to cause relative radio silence on my end. Er, this time, at any rate.

I'll do a more broad con post later, but I absolutely had to share a couple of OMG SQUEE! moments from the con so far :)

Moment one: For the past two years, I've been wearing my brain slug to AI as my costume, as it is simple and I am somewhat lacking in other options at the moment ^^a For the past two years, Greg Ayers has also been completely enamoured with said brain slug. Since he always gets such a kick out of it, this year I decided to make him one of his own. A smaller one, granted, but still.

Greg absolutely loved it ^___^ I didn't make it to Opening Ceremonies (Registration is always super hectic on Friday), but he told me that he wore it on stage ♥ This has been confirmed several times over by random attendees and other staffers :) I am positively delighted to have made him something that gives him so much joy. (Bonus moment: I've had Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Fluttershy with me for practically the whole con; Greg saw them and took one of my mini flyers and is going to share the link with a friend of his who is "totally a Brony" :DD)

Moment two: Saturday is much less hectic at Registration, so I got pretty much the entire afternoon off! After we closed up shop for the evening, I wandered around a bit before settling down. I ended up sitting at the (no longer in use) Reg table and setting all of the amigurumi I still had out to show off and hopefully attract more people to ask questions and maybe grab a flyer of their own. I'd been there an hour or two, answering questions and being as charming as possible and promoting the heck out of [personal profile] hooked_on_anime when a group of three people came up and admired the ponies. A quick glance at a badge told me that I was dealing with Guest of Honor Lea Hernandez(!).

Lea and her cohorts complimented my work on the ponies, and then Lea asked if I was using a particular pattern - the one from that one site, what was it, anime crochet something? I held up a flyer tentatively so she could see the name of my blog as what turned out to be a pleasant surprise for both of us! It turns out that Lea has been trying to use my pattern to make a Fluttershy of her own for a while now, but has been having a little bit of trouble; I clarified a few things for her, we chatted shop and other things for a bit, and then she and the folks with her had other places to be.

I'm still gleeing out over it. Just - one of our Guests of Honor, someone AnimeIowa and many of our attendees (and I!) consider to be quite cool, had found my immodest crochet blog on her own somehow and liked my work! I, yeah. Squeeing and flailing everywhere. I'm going to be bragging about this to myself (and anyone who will listen) for weeks.

Those are some of the bigger things at the moment, though I've got plenty else to squee about yet. Sunday has yet to come, timestamp aside, though I'm not particularly expecting more surprises. The only way this could be stepped up somehow is if some industry person found out about my stuff and talked to me about licensing an anime crochet pattern book or something - which, well, longshot much? Seriously though, this has been great, everyone who has stopped to admire and compliment my stuff has been great, everyone who's said they might commission something is great, everyone who's bought (or traded for!) something is great, and I can't realistically imagine things getting more epic than this in the next twenty-four hours - though if they somehow do, I really can't say I'd complain ;)

In short: Right now? My life rocks out loud ♥ (Watch, I'll be back to hating half of everything by noon tomorrow XD Sooooo many people preregistering for next year. We have got to do something about that system...)
