Most of my tax money came in! I got the federal return on Monday and deposited it today; now I'm just waiting on the state return. My bank account is feeling much more comfortable now.
I did go on a tiny spending spree today in celebration. I got not-terrible grocery store Chinese food for lunch, and picked up a few odds and ends from Joann's and the Dollar Tree. Among the odds and ends were a spool of white ribbon and a makeup pouch to make a detachable apron pocket; I've got the prototype sewn up and will hopefully be trying it out tomorrow. (All I need to do is remember it!) If it works out, I'll probably be switching from ties to snaps.
Also at the Dollar Tree, I picked up a couple of phone rings; the one I care about less has already been partially disassembled and the base part attached to the bottom of my massive, 35mm, translucent ocean blue crochet hook in preparation of turning it into a henshin-style wand for AnimeIowa! It's not a perfect fit, but for the amount of money and time looking I was willing to spend, it turned out pretty okay. Plus, it's mostly going to be an anchor for a giant rainbow ribbon I'll be tying in a bow on the end, and then hanging a glass prism from 😃 I might see if I can take a hammer and re-shape it slightly, or I might try to gently re-shape the second one I got (which I've saved because I thought it was cuter, but can 100% live without), but even if I don't, I think what I have works well enough.
Since first grade, part of me has been incredibly envious of the very fancy bobbins that some bobbin lace makers have. Crochet hooks had no real equivalent, with the fancily carved ends of some wooden crochet hooks coming about the closest I've seen to what I want. (Second closest are the crochet hooks that people wrap in Sculpy for a more ergonomic grip.) Realistically, most decorations would probably make crochet hooks too unwieldy to use well, but that was already a problem for my 35mm monstrosity 😂 That small part of me will soon be living out the dream, once I get my henshin crochet hook all glammed up!
