Why is it Friday the Thirteenth is considered unlucky, anyway? I know thirteen is supposed to be an unlucky number. I know buildings sometimes skip it when numbering floors and rooms for precisely this reason. But I don't know _why_ it's supposed to be unlucky.
When I was younger, my mom told me it was due to freaky Christian symbolism stuff. Nowadays (due to this, that, and the other thing), I'm more inclined to believe it's because a bunch of people think it's supposed to be unlucky. To me, though, thirteen is not an unlucky number, no matter how many odd or downright creepy things happen in association with it.
Frankly, if I'm to go with any superstition about the number thirteen, I'm inclined to believe it's a number associated with challenges to be overcome.
