Bad News, Good News

The bad news is that our furnace is well and truly and completely dead. Irreparable, shucked off this mortal coil, etc. It was some sixty years old, so honestly it was time, but still.

The good news is that someone will be by around 8:00am tomorrow to install a new furnace, yay! May it last at least a third as long as its predecessor.

It's here! It's installed! It took them damn near eight hours, but it's working!

Yeah, I went through that last winter. Furnace guy comes out, confirms that my high-level diagnosis of the failure was essentially correct. Then notes that the furnace is older than he is. I figure this one should outlast my time in this house.

Fingers crossed! If this one lasts even half as long as our previous one, I figure it'll have done pretty well by modern appliance standards.
