soc_puppetOoooo, I really don't like the template we're supposed to use for our final speech! And using that specific template is required for the grade.
It's built fully around the "Munroe Motivational Sequence", and I just. I feel like the steps in that thing are named in a very non-intuitive way.

I swear, this thing has me tearing out my hair over trying to match what the sections actually mean with what I feel like they should mean. This is also considerably more granular than our previous speech template. I'm about thisclose to just... blowing off this outline, writing my speech, and trying to retro-fit it.
The good news is, I don't actually have to present my persuasive speech. The bad news is, I picked a topic that makes me want to. So I guess I'll see how that goes.

(I may yoink this template for figuring out how to write the essay parts of my book (hybrid fiction and nonfiction)
P.S. in the public speaking class I took in college, the "Why are you Credible on this Topic"
(aka: who the hell are you) always came first... And the "Why should the audience care?" is basically why you care.

Date: 2025-07-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(I'm focusing on ads, because that's something my classmates and teacher were complaining about in class a couple of weeks ago, though we both know that Firefox has many other wonderful features, such as for accessibility.)
It's getting increasingly difficult to avoid ads in life; this is especially true of the internet. Fortunately, there's a solution, and it's one I've been using for more than twenty years: an internet browser by Mozilla called Firefox.
Browsers based on Google Chrome are currently the norm. Unfortunately, as [source] explains, this makes it very easy for them to steal your data and feed you targeted ad after targeted ad. [Source] even tells us that Chrome has baked in a user-tracking ad platform! This is obviously not great for either user privacy or avoiding predatory ads that make you feel like shit.
Switching to Firefox unfortunately doesn't block all ads and tracking software on its own, but it does make ad blocking both possible and easy to do. After you get Firefox installed, with the passwords and usernames it imported from your other browser, you simply search the Add Ons and Extensions selection for something called uBlock Origin: This tool will block ads everywhere from Bored Panda to YouTube videos. To demonstrate, I've pulled up the same website on this computer on both Chrome and Firefox, the latter of which is logged into my personal account. As you can see, the Firefox window has noticeably fewer ads than the Chrome window.
Now imagine the difference on other sites you use! Fewer ads on Meta, Tik Tok, Instagram, and pretty much anywhere else you can think of; as long as you're visiting via Firefox on desktop, ads are basically a thing of the past. And if there's ever a reason you want to see ads, turning your ad blocker off temporarily is as easy as flipping a switch.
So there you have it: If you want your internet experience to have vastly reduced ads and greatly improved privacy, switching to Mozilla Firefox is the way to go. Try it today!
Bleh 😑 I need to find at least one more place to shoehorn in something I can cite, on top of needing to find out if I can smoosh everything there into its proper place in the template. This one is so constrained 😭
And by all means, yoink away! Just because it's giving me the raging glares doesn't mean it won't be useful for you.
Personal credibility is where I struggle the most with these speeches 😩 I picked "You should use Firefox!" because I only had two ideas that I felt I can be really "credible" on, and the other one was "Let me tell you about Esperanto 😃" Other ideas included:
* Please wear a mask at the doctor's office at least?
* You should keep your cats indoors, your cat and the wildlife will thank you
* Vaccines are great! You should get them regularly
* Gen AI sucks, don't use it
* Looking for a dog? Consider a retired racer!
* Have you possibly considered insect protein?
Esperanto and Firefox are the only topics I feel like I can establish credibility with. I mean, maybe masking, because my teacher and classmates have all seen me wearing a mask since the start of class, but that doesn't make me a credible source for why anyone else should wear a mask.
So yeah. Firefox, I guess.
