Speech Class Gripe
Jul. 22nd, 2025 03:46 pmOoooo, I really don't like the template we're supposed to use for our final speech! And using that specific template is required for the grade.
It's built fully around the "Munroe Motivational Sequence", and I just. I feel like the steps in that thing are named in a very non-intuitive way.
Here's the persuasive speech template we're supposed to use:
[Title of Speech]
[Name]
Topic:
General Purpose:
Specific Purpose:
Central Idea/Thesis Statement:
I. Introduction
A. [Attention Getter]
B. [Why should the audience care?]
C. [Why are you personally credible?]
D. [Thesis statement – State your 3 main points]
[Transition to Body]
II. Body
A. [Problem]
1. [Evidence for problem]
2. [Evidence for problem]
3. [Conclusion to tie the evidence back to the problem]
[Transition - internal summary/internal preview]

1. [Describe the Solution]
2. [Evidence to support the solution]
3. [Conclusion to tie the evidence to the solution]
[Transition – internal summary/internal preview]
C. [Visualization]
1. [How does your solution solve your problem?]
2. [Benefits of your solution]
3. [Example for how your solution will work]
[Transition to Conclusion]
III. Conclusion

B. [Relate back to audience]
C. [Call to Action]
Works Cited
[Enter sources in APA or MLA]
[End template]
I swear, this thing has me tearing out my hair over trying to match what the sections actually mean with what I feel like they should mean. This is also considerably more granular than our previous speech template. I'm about thisclose to just... blowing off this outline, writing my speech, and trying to retro-fit it.
The good news is, I don't actually have to present my persuasive speech. The bad news is, I picked a topic that makes me want to. So I guess I'll see how that goes.

Date: 2025-07-23 05:52 am (UTC)Luckily, that seems to have done the trick! I've got one sentence left ("Relate back to audience" in the conclusion paragraph), which I think I'll knock out after my evening ablutions.
