Aaaaaahhhhh!
Aug. 20th, 2025 12:05 amClasses start up again on Monday!
Okay, I'm cool, I'm good, I'm collected; I can do this.
Right now I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to me to start taking the bus to and from classes. There's a specific bus that goes from my hometown to the college campus I'm attending, a thirty minute drive away, and financially it might be a good idea overall. It's just that one of the classes I'm taking would have me out the door by 8:30 AM, and that's a smidge earlier than I like to get up these days 😅
Still, it's doable! The bus stop for the in town bus is under a block from my house, so it's not a particularly arduous walk—or at least it's not too much worse than just walking to where I've parked my car. It would be better for the environment and would save wear and tear on my (aging) vehicle. Even taking the bus three days a week might be good enough.
So my plan is, probably on Thursday and maybe on Friday as well, take the (free) in town bus to the interchange and then back home. If I really want to give a solid go of it, I'll also give the town-to-campus bus a try, but we'll see how I feel about spending $7 on that. I'll also want to start turning the lights out earlier, preferably tonight.
Fingers crossed for cheap textbooks and sparse homework!

Date: 2025-08-20 08:42 am (UTC)Best of luck with the resumption of your classes, and I hope they'll be fun and interesting!
Ooh, your public transport situation sounds very good (probably even better than mine is, and mine's quite good already), so I'd encourage you to at least go with the free option. The other option does sound a bit pricy to me, too, since I often take a bus ride a bit shorter than that, and that costs only half as much, but I guess it's got to do with it going to the campus?
(Leaving at 8:30 sounds genuinely luxurious to me, when I've spent a lot of last year leaving at 7:30, but I see what you mean.)

Date: 2025-08-20 06:33 pm (UTC)I would say, test out the various methods and observe their effects on your energy and budget. Pick the one you like best as your standard mode. Discard anything that is unworkable. Reserve anything in between as wiggle room in case you need to save money, energy, or whatever temporarily.
Re: Thoughts
Date: 2025-08-22 03:44 am (UTC)That's roughly the plan! I thought I'd give the bus option a week's trial and go from there. It'll involve some interesting timeline budgeting, so I'll have to weigh that in.

Date: 2025-08-22 03:51 am (UTC)It's pretty damn good! Busses Monday through Saturday, and they stop near my house every twenty minutes. The city made them free a couple of years ago; I haven't been on one since Covid, but, well, considering the considerables... Alas, the free option only gets me from A to B, while the paid is from B to C, and I need to get from A to C. Maybe someday I'll learn to teleport, but until then, I'll be stuck paying for stuff.
(I feel you there! My morning routine has gone through several changes. For a good six years, I was waking up at 3:30am to go to work nine days out of fourteen, so sleeping until 7:30 sounds luxurious to then-me! Given a week off, though, my natural circadian rhythm will put me at sleeping from 4am to noon—not uncommon for ADHD adults, I'm given to understand.)

With the bus, even though you're still paying, someone else is doing it for you, at least... It would be nice if you could have something similar to my country, where you don't have to pay for public transport as a student, but that might be wishful thinking.
Hmmm, even in vacations, my sleep schedule usually stays in place (from 11 to 8, approximately), and I do think I might have ADHD... Then again, that's what I've always had, so maybe that might play a role, too?
