Fic: Speak No Evil: 1/1
Oct. 25th, 2005 07:30 pmFandom: Naruto
Summary: Reactions to Sandaime bringing baby!Naruto back to the village after the attack. Same universe as Thicker Than Water; not sure what to call the continuity yet.
Fic: Speak No Evil
When the battle is over the Third returns to the village not with Yondaime but a newborn child. The newly reinstated Sandaime calls him Uzumaki Naruto for the village's symbol and the spiral scrawled on his stomach--though the latter fades within a few days--because he does not know what his parents would have named him, and has him placed in foster care.
The villagers are careful to say nothing of this strange turn of events. They say nothing about his vivid blond hair or his eyes that stay blue long after the first few weeks of life. They don't speak of the strange whisker-like marks on his face or his broad cheekbones. They are especially silent about the fox-woman who stayed so long with the late Yondaime and the child's resemblance to them both.
They are so silent that at first Sandaime thinks they do not know. Then he looks more closely and sees the hatred they treat the boy with, sees the animosity toward him and the cruelty in their eyes.
Soon after, a law is passed forbidding the citizens of Konoha to speak of how Yondaime truly defeated the demon fox. Unspoken is the threat of what would happen should anyone speculate on the child's true lineage.
--Fin--
Well, it makes sense to me that the law would be passed when the Powers That Be notice trouble rather than right after the sealing. It also makes sense that such a law might actually do more harm than good, particularly by calling attention to and identifying the victim to those who might have overlooked him. So, either way, really.
Another idea being thrown in here is that Uzumaki Naruto is really a false name. It is just a bit too convenient for me, after all. Possibly this is to protect Naruto, and possibly it is because his (real?) parents never got a chance to name him.
Other inspirational factors can be found here.
Thoughts?
