Fic: Speak No Evil: 1/1
Oct. 25th, 2005 07:30 pmFandom: Naruto
Summary: Reactions to Sandaime bringing baby!Naruto back to the village after the attack. Same universe as Thicker Than Water; not sure what to call the continuity yet.
Fic: Speak No Evil
When the battle is over the Third returns to the village not with Yondaime but a newborn child. The newly reinstated Sandaime calls him Uzumaki Naruto for the village's symbol and the spiral scrawled on his stomach--though the latter fades within a few days--because he does not know what his parents would have named him, and has him placed in foster care.
The villagers are careful to say nothing of this strange turn of events. They say nothing about his vivid blond hair or his eyes that stay blue long after the first few weeks of life. They don't speak of the strange whisker-like marks on his face or his broad cheekbones. They are especially silent about the fox-woman who stayed so long with the late Yondaime and the child's resemblance to them both.
They are so silent that at first Sandaime thinks they do not know. Then he looks more closely and sees the hatred they treat the boy with, sees the animosity toward him and the cruelty in their eyes.
Soon after, a law is passed forbidding the citizens of Konoha to speak of how Yondaime truly defeated the demon fox. Unspoken is the threat of what would happen should anyone speculate on the child's true lineage.
--Fin--
Well, it makes sense to me that the law would be passed when the Powers That Be notice trouble rather than right after the sealing. It also makes sense that such a law might actually do more harm than good, particularly by calling attention to and identifying the victim to those who might have overlooked him. So, either way, really.
Another idea being thrown in here is that Uzumaki Naruto is really a false name. It is just a bit too convenient for me, after all. Possibly this is to protect Naruto, and possibly it is because his (real?) parents never got a chance to name him.
Other inspirational factors can be found here.

Date: 2005-10-26 01:36 am (UTC)Though that makes me wonder why people speculate that Arashi is Yondaime's real name. Because people say that the name previous of Naruto's on the Frog scroll is Yondaime's and it was Arashi something or other.
Hm...
Oh, and in answer to your question about doing collabs and what I use as means to contact...well...to be honest, I'm not much of an email person since my resolution was reduced to below 800x600 or whatever *has 480x640 or something*
Hm...and I still need to work on the Yondaime fic XDD

Date: 2005-10-26 01:56 am (UTC)Well, Arashi is traditionally a first name (I think), so it's still possible. Also, they did some counting on the scrolls I think; from what I'm aware, Naruto's name is the most recent, then it's Arashi, then Jiraiya. Since Yondy could summon frogs (as evidenced by the first episode if nothing else) it's a logical conclusion. (I really want to know how it was spelled, though. Depending on the kanji used, I'm pretty sure it could mean 'tempest', and then I start geeking over large storms having a whole bunch of spiraling winds and so forth.)
*patpat* There, there. I feel your pain. Anyway, I just got a 'new' computer, which should be able to handle Yahoo!Messenger better than my last one, so I'm willing to give that a try. If not, I can just post what I've got in a locked post and we can go off on tangents there and stuff. Whatever works--if you're interested in a collaboration, of course.
Just a little bit of encouragement on my part ^_~

Date: 2005-10-26 02:39 am (UTC)I like the image of Yondaime's name meaning 'tempest.' Make a great image for the scene of sealing Kyuubi away--Oh...is that a plunnie I see hopping around? I think it wants me to write something XDD
Yahoo would be okay, and of course I would wanna do a collab. I've never really done one before...so...it would be a new experience for me for sure ^_^;;;
Just a warning, you're going to have to push and shove me to get me to focus on one topic, especially with writing fics. I've never been diagnosed with ADD, but sometimes I act like it because I just can't seem to focus unless someone holds a gun to my head...or maybe I'm just like Shigure from Furuba? XDD No idea XD

Date: 2005-10-26 03:03 am (UTC)'Important' parts are in bold.
Like Nara and other parts of Japan, the shika, or Japanese deer, are 'revered' here. Why? I'm not exactly sure. In Nara, the deer are a symbol of the gods housed in Kasuga-Jingu, so I imagine the Kashima deer are revered as symbols of Kashima-Jingu's own Takemikazuchi-no-Okami. Of course, being penned as tourist attractions, the deer are completely domesticated, are hand-fed snacks and crackers from vending machines, bleet at passersby, and generally look bored and morose.

As an additional note, 'Ino' means boar and 'Chou' means butterfly. And if you don't know what an Orochi is, I suggest looking it up on Wikipedia. Hell, Naruto itself is basically jam-packed with Japanese cultural references; you can't take two steps without tripping over one. It amuses me far too much ^^;
*sneaks food to the plunny* :3 Well, turnabout is fair play.
Great ^__^ I haven't really done one, either. We'll have to work out the details, of course, but I think it could be a lot of fun :) I'll be on tomorrow evening, or I can sign on now. Or both, though I would like a little sleep before tomorrow.
I shall be prepared to wave pointy objects in your direction should you need it :D

Date: 2005-10-26 03:34 am (UTC)And while we're on name tangents, and thinking that Arashi might be written to mean Tempest, Yondy was also called the Yellow Flicker/Flash, which now makes me think of lightning :3 It also feeds my crossover plunny, because Yoruichi was called the God of Flash, and Yondy might've learned that body flash/flicker jutsu from someone else instead of coming up with it himself, so...
Kishimoto-sensei's plots may not be layered, but his names sure are!Tomorrow it is ^_^
