Fic: Fair Play: 1/1
Nov. 8th, 2005 08:06 pmFandom: Magic Kaito
Summary: Aoko runs into a slight problem when traveling.
For:
hakaisha, due to recent events
Fic: Fair Play
It happened during a class trip to Europe, and remained on Aoko's mind for some time after. The class was making a stop in Munich, and the teachers in charge had warned everyone both before and during the trip to be careful with their personal effects.
Still, Aoko hadn't expected someone to bump into her the moment she stepped off the bus. Kaito, who was behind her, had seen the whole thing. Aoko had the unpleasant experience of seeing her normally cheerful friend's eyes narrow in displeasure. The expression was gone in an instant and Kaito was smiling again.
"I'm going to find a public restroom. I'll be back in a few, okay?" he said brightly. Aoko nodded dumbly and watched Kaito walk off--away from the bus terminal, and in the same direction as the man who had bumped into her. She quickly lost sight of her friend in the crowd, but he returned not two minutes later with a faint air of satisfaction.
"Forgot that there was probably one here," he admitted off-handedly. "Oh, by the way, you dropped this on the bus." Kaito pressed Aoko's wallet into her hand and she watched, bewildered, as Kaito walked into the near-by building.
When she checked her wallet later, there was far more money in it than she remembered putting there. When she asked Kaito about it, he put on an innocent face and suggested that her father might have slipped her some extra spending money as a gift, and changed the subject.
Aoko wasn't quite satisfied with the answer, but she let the matter drop. It was better than lingering on it, she decided, and perhaps learning things she didn't want to know.
--End--
Friend of mine told me once how he was pick-pocketed in (I think) a subway station in Chicago. So he tracked the thief down, picked his pocket right back, and left with his own wallet and the money from the thief's . ...He's like that. Wanted to share the story, but decided that maybe the message would be better in fic form.
And now, there's some late birthday fics I'd better be getting to.
