soc_puppetIn celebration of my birthday, I present a Late Birthday fic!
Fandom: Magic Kaito
Summary: Saguru gets an unusual birthday gift. Semi-sequel to Tangled Lines.
Fic: Unexpected Guests
Saguru stared at the two figures incredulously. Aoko smiled somewhat sheepishly back, but Kaito was as smug and self-satisfied as usual. He looked like the kaitou that had stolen the canary. (Saguru wouldn't put it past him, either.) "What," he said at last, "are you doing here in England?"
Kaito's grin, if possible, widened. "We came to visit you for your birthday!"
Saguru rubbed his temples; he could feel a headache coming on, something not uncommon around the other boy. At least with Aoko here he could be somewhat better controlled. Hopefully. "Kuroba," he explained patiently, "for one thing, my birthday is at the end of August; it is now mid November. For another, you already wished me a happy birthday. Remember?" Saguru certainly did. He remembered it very well, especially since he'd been woken from a sound night's sleep at three a.m. by the incessant ringing of his phone, only to hear Kaito singing him happy birthday on the other end in surprisingly good English.
Kaito merely shrugged. "So? We came anyway. Besides, Aoko's birthday was in September, and I owed her one. You can call it a joint birthday present if you want."
Saguru gave up. Kaito and Aoko were stubborn enough on their own, and with the two of them agreed on something, heaven and earth couldn't get them to change their minds. "Fine. While you're here you can stay with me, since you seem to have your hearts set on monopolizing my time anyway. I'll see if I can have the guest bedroom set up." Kaito gave a whoop of joy and Aoko threw her arms around Saguru in a brief, tight hug. Saguru had trouble concealing a smile as he pulled out his cellphone and dialed home. It was hard to hate birthday presents, even late ones.
