soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (umeboshi)
Cut for length of rant on orchestra music )Ah, I feel better getting that out ^__^ Anyway, much hate for Pachelbel's Canon. Much hate indeed.

Today, for the first time in years, someone called me a boy to my face XD I'm female, I was born female, but it's not always very obvious. I'm irritatingly tall (anyone know how to trade inches?), and not particularly well endowed. I've been growing my hair out since about 10th grade, but for a few years I had it cut rather short, which didn't help ^^; I also recall two events wherein I was mistaken for male _before_ I got it cut off. (I'm rather sad to have missed my chance to shave my head and pass it off as sympathy; Mom had breast cancer when I was in 7th grade, but at the time I wanted to keep my hair and gloat ^^;) I've femmed up a bit since the percieved gender issues, but not a terrible amount. So yeah, someone called me a boy, and it made me very amused =D

A quote from Patricia C. Wrede's Calling on Dragons:
"I'm confused," Killer said. "And all this talk about eating is making me hungry. Somebody explain it all so we can have lunch."
"You can't have lunch," Trouble said. "You're insubstantial."
"So somebody fix me, and
then we can have lunch," Killer said.
"I'm confused, too," Brandel said. "Even if I'm not particularly hungry."

Yeah. That amused me.
To all that haven't read them, I reccomend the books. Fairy Tale parodies they are, with a tall, dark-haired princess (at last! ^_^ <3) instead of... regular sized and blonde. Quite amusing, they are. Quick reads, too. Pick 'em up from the library or borrow 'em from a friend or something.

Finally, the title article! Contradictory Trillium!
...I'm mostly posting about this here to remind myself to ask Mr. Koepnick about cloning it, but it's pretty interesting in itself ^_^
Dad's a bit of a gardening buff, especially where woodland/prarie plants are concerned. Trillium is a woodland plant (monocot, and that's about all I remember from the short botany unit we did in Advanced Bio last year ^^;;;) with three leaves (hence the name ^_~) growing directly out of a stem (kinda like May Apples, if you're familiar with those). From these in turn grows a small, three-petaled dark red bloom. Leaves are dark green with small splashes of lighter green. Shiny on top. About six inches tall (I think). Leaves not very broad. I think that's about it ^^;
*spends a good twenty minutes looking for an image on google*
...Um, T. Gracile looks about right, but damned if I can swear by it. *mutters things about plant identification* Any botany students out there who could help me? No? Ah, well.
Anyway, this particular specimen of trillium is growing in our back yard, shaded by apple trees. Dad transplanted it from the woods somewhere. It is contradictory trillium because, instead of the usual three leaves from whence it gets its name, this specimen has four ^_~ Dad wants to find a way to cultivate it, and I think it's a great idea. Which is why I want to talk to Mr. Koepnick about that plant cloning method on Monday. Somebody try and help me remember?
