soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Barack me Obamadeus!)
Skipping the obligatory "OMG he won, GO AMERICA!!!1!1one!!" post for now in lieu of something with a bit more content. Because I went to sleep at midnight (excitement and also new books keeping me up late -_-a), then woke up at three and couldn't convince my body to go back to sleep, despite having to go to work at six. So this'll be my one big political post, I think. I hope.

-----

So to start off, I'd like to say that I have faith that every McCain supporter on my f'list, and probably at least 98-99% of McCain supporters I personally know, are perfectly gracious people who are handling the election outcome with tact and maturity - or at least are sticking to just whining a little bit, which is more than understandable. HOWEVER. That doesn't mean that there aren't a few sore losers out there (yes, in addition to sore winners, because I'm sure there are some, even if I don't have proof) who are willing to go to greater lengths to express their distaste with the state of affairs.

I know Obama isn't going to be the instant solution to all of our problems. Let's face it, America is always looking for the quick, easy fix, and there's really not going to be one. The only way to fix the things that have gone wrong is with hard work and probably more time than it took to make them.

There may be a couple places in the US where things aren't going nearly as well as I'd like, but trust me, in those places and elsewhere the people will fight back, just like the nation did yesterday. All across the US, people will speak, and we will be heard, and sooner or later things will get better for everyone.

Is this going to "fix" the economy? Is this going to provide a solution to the energy crisis? Is this going to give our nation its former standing in the eyes of the world? The answer to all of these questions is probably not, no. But I'd like to think this is a step in the right direction.

COMING IN JANUARY:

We got him in the race. We voted him into office. Now, on January 20th, the promised journey can finally begin.

Now, it's time for the hard part.

INAUGURATION DAY 44. BE THERE.

(It still needs a subtitle, I think.)

Edit: This article says everything I think I wanted to say, and so much more. For reasons why I will not become cynical, for why I will maintain my hope for the future, feel free to click and read.

Quote, for those who need a little push: "That Kennedy may have been quite restrained in his social justice sensibilities did not matter: the young people whose energy he helped unleash took things in their own direction and outgrew him rather quickly in their progression to the left."

Obama's victory has given us the potential energy to do a great many things; now all we have to do is steer it in the right direction.
