soc_puppet: Words "Full of Rage" in dark red (Frustration)
Oh look, there go the comment style changes. Subject line is confirmed gone. Drop-down menu for icons is confirmed gone (and the animated browse isn't loading for me at all). The preview option is confirmed gone. Heavy reliance on animation is confirmed in place.

Well, LJ, we had a decent run. Quite a few years out of me, and if I do the math, I did indeed get a certain value of my money's worth out of my permanent account. Sadly, I will definitely be shutting down comments on LJ, and will quite probably be discontinuing crossposting there as well. I remain undecided yet as to whether I go so far as to lock down some or all of my previously posted content, but I suppose time will tell.

For folks still interested in my random shit, I'll be posting on Dreamwidth for the foreseeable future as [personal profile] soc_puppet, with occasional crochet-related detours at [personal profile] hooked_on_anime. Dreamwidth is running open account creation through the end of the month, so anyone who wants to can create an account without needing an invite code. (I've got a ton of invite codes anyway, so drop me a comment here if you miss the deadline.) I might yet be convinced to crosspost to either JournalFen or InsaneJournal, as well.

For everyone else, so long and thanks for all the fish ♥

Edit: My old, seriously out-of-date computer is literally incapable of using the new comment form at LJ, so yeah, commenting there is going away forever. It's much more likely that everything's getting locked down, too. If you wanted to make sure I wouldn't miss you, LJ, you did a damn fine job.

Edit 2: Anonymous commenting is back on at my Dreamwidth account. I don't care if I do start getting spam again, the spam team will eat it for breakfast. And lunch. And dinner. They love eating spam, basically.

Incidentally, for upcoming fun times (where by "fun" I mean "schadenfreude"): Dreamwidth Stats
Check out the latest Newbyday number over the next few days. Watch it rise drastically >D (I am so glad I decided to import my stuff on Saturday, you have no idea.)

For fun that is considerably less dependant on LJ's suffering, check out Dreamwidth's Latest Things feed. It can be seriously addictive in the best ways.
soc_puppet: Words "Mad Fangirl" in blue (Mad Fangirl)
Author Jim C. Hines, who brought us such gifts as Talia, Smudge the fire-spider, and the list of 20 Neil Gaiman facts, has graced the internet with the following filk:

Have Yourself A Slashy Little Christmas

If you're a slash fan and don't mind a teensy bit of Xmas referencing/music in your head, I'd recommend giving it a read :) It's great for a laugh.

Jim has also done some other fun Xmas song parodies, but this one in particular warmed my blackened little fangirl heart, so I just had to make sure everyone saw it.
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Default)
Both of these come via the Dreamwidth Latest Things Feed, which I swear is usually not quite so full of "LJ sucks rocks", but, well, people tend to complain about the things they care about where they can, so.

For those of you who want to stay on LJ! Via [personal profile] sholio, who got it from [profile] agwt101: This here is a list of current workarounds for the new comment pages. If you liked the old ones and aren't afraid to do a little work to get them back, this might be worth checking out.

For those of you who are giving DW more consideration! Via [personal profile] elrhiarhodan, who heard about it from [personal profile] hoosierbitch, who may or may not have heard it straight from the horse's mouth:

Screencap [Caption: Dreamwidth Twitter account, with a tweet reading: @MiscPlinks @mopheadf Actually, we have already done a few community imports. It's just not publicly available... yet. Hopefully today.]

Edit: From the bottom of page 96 of the relevant [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases post, since I can't reply to it myself:

[livejournal.com profile] mightymelonlord: "Wow guys. What are you all complaining about? I think everything looks just fine."

Well played, Toph RPer; well played ♥

Edit 2: The ETA for importing communities has been pushed back to "hopefully sometime this week". Considering that they're estimating a good 10K new journals created today, plus however many of those and their previous users want to import their individual content, plus one of the main staffpeople has a brand new baby at home (though Oliver is doing his best to help out), I'm really not terribly surprised.

Slightly more info: here.

In light of this ETA, I've removed the copy-paste option for spreading the news.
