Hooked on Anime musing
Dec. 31st, 2011 09:38 pmI just spend the past too many hours wrangling my new Flickr account so I could have something like a working gallery linked at
hooked_on_anime again. I now have 197 images up there; it was a struggle to delete some of those and bring it down to that number, with the maximum number of images available for showing by a free account set at 200.
Honestly, I should have paid more attention to the warning from Photobucket that my bandwidth was going to run out when I got it at on the 23rd (a whole week earlier than last month), but I foolishly hoped it'd last out the month at least, and then I could figure out contingency plans in the new year. Not so! *sigh* I also assume that a bunch of people were looking for crafty ways to give gifts to their loved ones and stumbled on my site that way. I think that's pretty cool that they were doing that, in addition to being rather flattered by the implied amount of traffic, bandwidth issues aside. Hopefully balancing things with Flickr will help rein in some of that bandwidth eating; I'll definitely be replacing most of the photos in the MLP:FIM pattern post, if only because Flickr seems to have a photo limit instead of a bandwidth limit. (Flickr itself seems pretty great so far, aside from a rather buggy mass tagging system.)
I'm still thinking of moving the gallery/galleries proper to either a second journal or a private community, with individual posts for each project. That could definitely help bring the bandwidth eating down, and would probably help me keep the text from the original gallery post as well, albeit cut into more bite-sized pieces.
I've probably got a lot more picture and HTML juggling in my future, sigh. (Though I'm almost looking forward to it when Dreamwidth gets their own image hosting going ♥) Still, it's a reasonable fix for now, and I'll be able to figure yet more out when images go back up on the ninth.
In the mean time, I've finally got the pattern for Dobby the House-Elf up! And now time to play with my rats, so I can get a break from looking at screens. Maybe more icon-making later.
