soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
I have an essay in me about writing, and also about reading. Or maybe several essays.

About how Socchan x Detailed Outlines is my new OTP, and how I got there.

About how writing perfect characters is downright boring and how long it took me not to really figure that out.

About how reading buttloads of fanfiction made me both a better writer and a better reader.

About writing both for myself and for an audience, and how I always prefer to do both (and possibly going into the thing where having multiple motivating factors, especially if one is self-interest, makes people more likely to do things).

And that's mostly it, I think? But it's on my mind.

Speaking of writing! I am mostly kicking Cinderkat's butt. I had some outline issues (some timing/pacing related, some "what stuff actually happens" related) but then I sat down and got a detailed outline of the second half of the fic written and now I'm doing better with it. I also had to POV switch at least one scene, which may mean I end up with an entirely John-centric chapter, but wev. My brain may be yelling at me for doing this in what's ostensibly supposed to be a Karkat-centric fic, but whatever keeps me writing, yanno? ...Though it may not be even remotely recognizable as derived from Cinderella when I'm finished with it, even without the hypothetical sequels.

The Detailed Outline and Perfect Characters Are Boring things have come to mean that I'm probably going to end up retooling my entire Snow White reboot outline (I think our dearest Snow may end up being more fair than my original goal of fair (#6 there), though I'll be doing my damnedest to keep the latter as well), but it'll make it a better story, and that's probably always what I'll end up siding with in the end. Which sucks for about the amount of time it takes for me to figure out that the current story is terrible and to get over that, but I feel better about it in the end.
