For April 15th:

Mom asked if she could bribe me to take Chester for a walk; I usually take her up on the offer in exchange for little things, like her loading the dishwasher instead of me. Anyway, I took Chester out to the dog park, which was practically deserted; I came within twenty feet of maybe one other person the entire time I was there. Social distancing success!

So I know, I know, that corporations should absolutely be giving their employees all the tools they need to stay safe in a pandemic. It should be a matter of course, and the fact that it isn't is horrifying. Essential workers should be treated with the respect they deserve, including hazard pay and safety equipment. I know.

Unfortunately, we have to work with reality as it exists, not as we would have it, and sometimes stopgap measures are all we can make happen.

(Bernie Sanders calling for the resignation of Michigan's governor in 2016 in response to Flint was trying to impose ideals on a world that wouldn't accept them; Hillary Clinton calling the same governor up and talking to them about how to get government support for the residents of Flint was much less ideal, but unlike Bernie's efforts, it actually got results. In an ideal world, Bernie's call for the governor's resignation would've worked, but in an ideal world, the water problems in Flint wouldn't have happened in the first place. You work with the reality you have, not the reality you want, if you want results.)

Someone suggest to them branded/themed masks for food employees. Red masks with yellow smileys or golden arches for McDonald's; brown masks with golden crowns for Burger King; anything that can stamp a brand on a face mask for folks who still have to work. Give corporations a way to keep their employees safe that makes them feel like they're still winning (even though keeping their employees safe should already be considered a win) and they might just do it.
