Suddenly a Chef
Dec. 24th, 2021 12:19 amAround 9:00pm, my parents delegated the task of cooking our Christmas Eve ham to me.
At around 10:00pm, I went Ducking Around* for recipes, because I want to actually have some idea what I'm doing.
At roughly 11:00pm, I grumbled, put on my coat, and went to the grocery store for the second time in one day, because damned if I'm going tomorrow.
I'm now prepared to make the best damn ham I can (out of... extra-thick-sliced deli ham, rather than anything with an actual bone in the middle, because that's what Dad brought home last weekend), and only a teensy bit grumpy that I wasn't appointed this task before I went to the store the first time, around 7:00pm.
Other planned dishes are a double-size batch of green bean casserole, because I like it, and a simple risotto for carbs, because Dad also picked up a whole bunch more of that than I expected when I requested some. It's delicious, but yeesh!
