Our yard is in full bloom now ^___^ The scilla, sadly, is gone now, as are most of the daffodils, but they have been replaced by violets, tulips, Dutchman's Breetches, bloodroot, bleeding heart, bluebells, all sorts of things ^_^ The pear trees are blooming, as is the peach tree, which makes me very happy. (I find the peach blossoms quite charming, to tell the truth. I hope we get lots of peaches in the fall ♥) The apple trees haven't started flowering yet, but they've got many buds. We also have May Apples coming up under the apple trees. They haven't started blooming yet--that won't happen for a while--but a few of them have put out their own buds.

Violets tend to distract me the most. We've got a whole range of colors in the back yard, and I end up going into mental tangents on genetics. We've got yellow wood violets, classic purple violets, white violets with blue throats, plain white violets, baby blue violets and, just this year, what look like red violets. (The color is a bit too purple to be true red, but it's awfully close for something called a 'violet'.) A lot of times this gets me wondering about dominance of traits and how we got some of these colors. The plain white violets for example have a plant structure similar to the yellow wood violets and a buttery yellow hue to their petals, unlike the blue-throated white violets. And some of the blue-throated white violets are blue almost to the edge of the petals, which makes me wonder about incomplete dominance. I don't really know much about violet genetics, though, so I usually abandon these lines of thought before too long. I hope we have as much variety next year as we do this year, though.

Now, in order to keep this post from being entirely about flowers, have some Mah-Jong in Saiyuki geeking. It's great fun to read all the details ^^v Makes me wanna play Mah-Jong again, too... Anyway, next post I think I may fangirl about Ouran High School Host Club. (WTF, Tanaki looks just like a grown-up Momiji, except for the eyes.)

Flowers are one of my favorite parts of spring. My Mom and I LOVE gardening. We usually plant mossroses, but there's something about the conditions there--the soil, water, sun, and so forth--that makes it perfect for hostas. We always have a jungle of hostas alongside our front door. Makes me happy--I'm quite fond of those little shrubs.

I was also happy to see the tulips blooming by one of the dorms on campus a couple nights ago. Spring is finally here, yay!!

Funny how Pella always holds Tulip Time at least a week after the tulips have peaked. This year it's the first weekend in May...

Flowers are great

I absolutely love spring flowers best of all. My cherry tree in the back yard is in full blossom right now. My tulips opened a few days ago, but Peter Cottontail has come and eaten most of them. ~_~ The hyacinth bulbs I planted last fall (none of which I thought would make it) are all coming up.
