Am feeling more than a little droopy and overwhelmed lately. Was half-tempted to make a long, involved post about the reasons why and speculation and so forth, but decided against it. Doesn't really fit with the tone of my journal. I will say two things, though: one, I am very thankful to be seeing my psychologist again, as I am sure to feel a lot better about life in general with a little work; and two, my prozac dosage is probably going to go up soon. This worried me a little, since the last time we tried raising my med dosage was when I was still on paxil (this was before they found out it had some addictive properties and stopped giving it to kids under eighteen), and I got really aggressive. Going to try again with prozac, since it does better for me in general, and because I have been way too stressed lately. ...Am also possibly going to find out what I got on that IQ test from five years ago on Friday, and will be taking some other tests as well. I've been assured that I'm very smart (and that the numbers don't mean much, since it's very dependant on setting and so forth, and it doesn't exactly test all kinds of intellegence and all that), but it would still be nice to have a number to wave around.
My psychologist also tried to shift me from getting rats onto something else fuzzy that I could bond with (part of her excuse being the social stigma against rats, pets or no), though the most it's done is make me re-think getting rats. I mean, I know they seem cute and cool now, but will I really think that in two or three years? I like to think I've learned my lesson from green iguanas. Still, I don't know that I'm ready or willing to go for something much larger, and a lot of the smaller pets don't seem like they're up my alley. Mice and gerbils and such are supposed to be really independant, and a dog would end up being more of a family pet (if we could even sneak it in past Dad). Maybe I should start looking into rabbits again. Still not eliminating rats from the possibility list, though. Anyone else have any opinions? Suggestions of relatively-easy-to-care-for pets that bond easily with humans? (Cheap is also nice, though I may forgo it.)
Cable is now back in the house, though the TV in the kitchen no longer works, which kinda cuts down on my ability to watch what I want. May have to rely on reading for a while. (Picked up Wintersmith, the new Tiffany Aching book, at Prarie Lights yesterday, but finished it too quickly for it to be much help today. Going to try attacking Conrad's Fate again instead, possibly to be followed by another go at Moby Dick.)
I also now have about thirty days to make a costume for Hallowe'en. Will have to start sketching patterns and go buy cloth sometime soon. And also thred, because not running out of thred is good.
Finally, Lyzz (or anyone who can answer, really), did anything particularly significant happen in Friday's episode of Avatar? Particularly to Jet or Zuko? I kinda doubt I'll be able to see it before late tomorrow night (at the earliest), and I do have an idea that I wanna write if it's not yet been disproven. So, uh, assistance plz.
(Oh, also, am kicking myself into working on Communications again after my latest stall. Still need to decide whether I'm going to re-write the entire first half or not. I have an idea to make it more interesting (or something), but it might cost me some information that Heiji needs to figure stuff out. Will have to think about it.)
re: friday's avatar; "Tales of Ba Sing Se"
Date: 2006-10-01 09:54 pm (UTC)While it does include Toph and Katara kicking ass, Iroh being awesome and a tribute to Mako, Aang and crazy animal hijinks, Sokka free-style haiku-ing, Zuko being a dork with absolutely no social skills, and Momo grooving, there is next to nothing of relavence to the actual plotline. But you still have to see it.
You'll laugh. You might cry. You might say, "Oh, Zuko" and headdesk a lot. I know I did. ♥

Date: 2006-10-02 08:44 pm (UTC)....Marriage meeting what.no subject
Date: 2006-10-03 01:11 am (UTC)...Yeah. That meeting thing in Japan, where you sit around with potential future spouses. It has an official name, I just can't think of what it is at the moment.
...
...Yeah. Of course, knowing me, I'll be thinking of a completely different reason for Jet to actually be there, but. The important thing is the result, right?
Also, I can't believe I still haven't discussed my crack theory with you yet.

Date: 2006-10-03 01:26 am (UTC)...Yeah, that didn't really compute. What exactly are you thinking of? XD;;Ooooh crack. *goes to look*

Date: 2006-10-03 01:46 am (UTC)Okay, so. Sometimes women have these marriage meeting things? Where they meet potential grooms and stuff? And since Zuko's kindof a prince, he'd probably need to meet a lady he could stand and of the right breeding. And then Jet is there for a completely different reason - haven't decided what yet - and accidentally stumbles in as a 'bride candidate'. Or something. And then of course after Jet's poured his heart out about whatever, Zuko would be, "Okay, but why are you at my marriage meeting thing?" And Uncle would be, "I like this one! Let's keep him!" And stuff. Iunno.*waits patiently for response*

Your crack is delicious and I want some moreplz. See, I'd heard of this pairing but could think of no basis for it.
You have just supplied basis.
Ergo, you are awesome and deserve muchos bebés. :DDD

Date: 2006-10-03 01:58 am (UTC)XDDD I thought you would say that. Anyway, have plans to do that one after I write the one where Jet's just been brainwashed and goes to the teahouse all remorseful and stuff, ready to make peace with Li because "he can't live without him." Or whatever.*LJ is stupid sometimes*
XDDD Where did you hear of it? Also, it would be beyond awesome to write. (I have a secret love of GranGran.)
*more boogie-ing goes here*
Anyway, this will definitely be written if the series never contradicts it.
Or maybe it'll be written before we find out, if I'm prodded into it. We'll see. I just wouldn't really have a place for it, unlike the JetLi stuff.no subject
Date: 2006-10-03 02:09 am (UTC)I want your brain. ♥♥♥♥♥The messageboards? XD; Only in passing. And yes, it would be way beyond awesome.
I don't foresee it being contradicted anytime soon.
But just in case, you should write it fast. :DOh, and something that may or may not relate: In Tales of Ba Sing Se, we see a portrait of Lu Ten, presumably at the age of his death (early- to mid-twenties), and Iroh has a picnic in honor of his (Lu Ten's) birthday.

Date: 2006-10-03 02:28 am (UTC)"I'm sorry," said Jet. "I can see now that I only came up with the 'Fire Kingdom War' conspiracy and the resulting feedom fighter group as an excuse to get closer to you. Can you ever forgive me?"
Li gave him a weird look. "What are you talking about?"
Ah, I see.
Joyness :3
I probably should. Still want a place to put it, though. Can't say that a lot of Avatar fans really read my LJ, after all. *likes attention and exposure, yus*(Also, frighteningly enough, the abovementioned 'marriage meeting' fic could probably fit into that universe startlingly well.)Well, it's an extremely good thing that it's now 95% downloaded then, isn't it?

Still the question of 'how', of course, but I still approve of the notion....I am going to be killed for my reaction to the Momo story. Advance warning. (Though, uh, I will remind you that if you or anyone kills me, I'll never get around to writing/finishing those fics mentioned above. Just sayin'.)

Date: 2006-10-02 08:45 pm (UTC)How to Make a Momo Costume!
Date: 2006-10-03 01:17 am (UTC)"Actually, I think a Momo costume might be easier to make than a Katara costume. Besides that, it would probably be warm enough to walk around outside in on Hallowe'en--at least around here; most of the time, Hallowe'en night is pretty chilly in Iowa.
Anyway, since Momo is furry all over, you can probably just start with a white sweatshirt/long-sleeved t-shirt and white sweat/cotton pants (depending on how cold it gets where you are; I know it's farther south).
For the brown markings over that, I'd reccomend getting brown cloth or a brown long-sleeved t-shirt, cutting it out in the right patterns and then hot gluing it on (possibly with a few stitches in brown thread here and there to make it stick better). Another option is brown fabric paint (or some other sort of brown paint, depending on whether you want to wash the costume or not/fumes/that sort of thing).
I'd probably go with the long-sleeved t-shirt option myself, because you'd get basically the right amount of cloth to start with without having to guess at yards. Plus, that whit section on Momo's chest looks very convenient; after you cut that out, you can probably cut that in half and glue the sections over the front/outside of the thighs of the white pants. The brown on Momo's arms looks like it's only on the underside and over the shoulders, so the shirt aspect would also help there; you wouldn't have to sew sleeves or even a vest-like thing.
For Momo's ears/head, I'd buy a white knit cap and some felt - maybe a yard of white, maybe half a yard, and probably just little squares of pink and violet. Cut the white felt into two shapes about like this, and cut stripes of pink and violet out to fit into these, alternating. There's about five or six stripes in each ear, and they end in the darker color. Glue the stripes in, wait for it to cool/dry, and then fold the ear over partially; the bottom should form a v/u shape. Glue or staple the edges onto the top of the knit cap. For the fuzz in Momo's ears, I'd say either cotton balls or, if you feel like it, extra fuzzy fake fur cloth, and glue those in where appropriate.
For Momo's hands, I'd go with white cotton work gloves with brown fabric paint on the palms. You can attach them to the sleeves or not, as you prefer. For his feet, I'd probably go with simple white cloth slip-on shoes; you can use some of the fabric paint to draw in toes if you have any left, or probably just use a permanant marker if you don't.
For Momo's tail, you can probably find a long brown furry tail at some store or other; or you can use a really long brown sock, and maybe stuff it a little; or you can probably make your own by sewing some brown (possibly fuzzy, since it's stiffer/looks like it has more volume) cloth into a tube shape. For the stripes, depending on how cheap you are, you can use white masking tape over it, white fabric paint, or strips of white cloth.
As far as Momo's face goes, I'd suggest either making a mask, or just a little bit of dark brown facepaint around the eyes, on the nose, and down to the lips; probably brown lipstic to make a mouth, as well. There's minor PC issues with painting one's whole face brown that we don't neccessarily want to get into ^^a On the other hand, it is doable with a lighter shade of brown.
How to Make a Momo Costume! ...Continued
Date: 2006-10-03 01:18 am (UTC)A note on the wing option: in the show (third episode), it shows that Momo's arms are brown all over when his wings are spread, and the 'rib' extending from his wrist is about the length of his arm. The coloring has two possible explanations: one, his wings are curled partially around his arms when not in use, disguising the brown color; and two, the artists did it for better contrast. It could well be both, but we're ignoring that for costume simplicity. Likewise, the wing 'rib' that extends from Momo's wrist appears to be the length of his arm, but is shortened here; to function realistically, it would either have to extend or be jointed in the middle and act with his elbow. I figured making it shorter would probably be easier all around.
And that's all I can think of. Though maybe you can carry around a peach or something, too. I dunno."
...Two hours later, I can safely say that the arm coloration thing seems to have been fixed in later episodes. Or at least one later episode. Here, have some approximate reference scribbles.
....Also, plz to pardon the length.
Re: How to Make a Momo Costume! ...Continued
Date: 2006-10-03 01:37 am (UTC)But maybe I should rephrase. XD I'm not sure I'd be comfortable being a junior in high school walking around in a flying lemur costume with my friends.
However, I shall keep this in mind in case I ever get desperate to cosplay for a con. :DDD
PS: Those "scribbles" are good, by the way. :Db

Date: 2006-10-03 01:42 am (UTC)Yes, well, that would make something of a difference.
Sounds good ^___^ Though if you do, I want pictures.
Thanks :3 Went through Ep 1x03 and took a bunch of screencaps to get all the details right.

Date: 2006-10-01 10:09 pm (UTC)I've been raising ferrets for nearly 20 years now; the longest one has lived was 11 years, but they can live longer (I knew one who died of old age at nearly 15). You do find ferrets that are biters, usually from being isolated in a cage and from other ferrets-- anything can turn mean with provocation. If you want to know more about 'em, email me and I'll tell you what I can. I know, they're not for everyone... but then, I'm *not* everyone and neither are you, are you? ^__^
