Socchan's search (in script form)

soc_puppet[Scene: Socchan is sitting at a computer, downloading things and getting to projects she meant to finish a while ago. Such as copy-pasting the remaining addresses for her holiday card signup thing. And looking up postal rates for sending letters overseas. And finding a map of Iowa.]
Socchan: Dee da dee, ho-hum, surfin' that interne---holy crap!
[socchan has found the map of Iowa] [she is staring in disbelief]
Socchan: ...Geez, I live on the other side of the state from Candy. That is a really long drive.
Socchan: ...
Socchan: I guess we could meet in Aimes or Des Moines. Those are roughly half-way between the two points.
Socchan: That, or I just make a weekend trip out of it and go halfway across the state.
Socchan: ...Yeah, the Des Moines day trip sounds slightly more plausible. Now I just need a reason to go there that my parents will accept. *begins to plot evilly*
Other than that, my life is a mixed bag at the moment. I still have access to the Kirkwood computer lab, though that'll go away for a while around the 21st and come back I think around the 2nd of January. Oh, and some other things...
First of all, St. Patrick's church, our family parish, will finally be torn down, starting on Thursday. Just in time for the holidays. There's going to be a memorial service for it on Wednesday, which is both touching and somewhat hilarious. I may decide to go.
Second, undergoing a minor crisis of faith at the moment, but I hear it's normal for twenty? Which of course makes me annoyed that they had us get confirmed at age fifteen and sixteen, but whatever. Managed to get something of a toehold on it last night somehow, and am going to dig my fingers in as hard as I can, because I'm just happier all around when I have faith. (Religion is, of course, different.)
Third, just got the news that the husband of my mom's sister has about six months left to live. See, they found out he had a brain tumor (and another cancerous lump somewhere else, though I don't know where), and they did some surgery, and initially gave him one to two years to live pre-treatment. So I figure, I've got time to spread things out, I've still got a teensy bit of leeway for hope to fit in there, and I don't particularly feel the need to write about it, so I won't. And then they find out that his brain tumor was worse than they thought, and it's not responding to radiation. Suddenly, his life span is cut down to six months.
Don't get the wrong idea; that branchlet of the family lives in Texas, which isn't exactly next door to Iowa, and I haven't gotten to see them very much, so I don't know them very well. But it's still going to affect Mom's sister, and their kids, and now I do want to write about it.
So, say a prayer for them, keep them in your thoughts, offer sympathetic words, whatever. As for me? Well, hopefully I just won't dwell on it for too long.
Anyway, now that all that fun stuff is out of the way, I am officially addicted to both Fate Stay Night and Karin. And I need more episodes of the latter, as at the end of the fifth, a new character shows up, and all I could think was, "What is Wolfram doing in this show, and where did he get that outfit?"
