Lurker Day Meme

Well! I had wanted to post the next installment of Communications today, or perhaps the next bit of Holiday Spirits or something, but it looks as if that isn't going to happen after all, more's the pity.

Instead, it's time for my traditional Lurker Day Meme~ This one was stolen shamelessly from inarticulate:

There are lots of fanfiction clichés out there: High school/boarding school AUs, superhero AUs, historical AUs, modern AUs, truth or dare/truth serum/truth potions, sex pollen fic, outer space AUs, pirate AUs, motorcycle gang AUs, apocalypse fic, aliens made them do it, soulbonding, arranged marriage, the list is infinite. Pick one, or make up a wacky AU setting all your own, and give me the name of one character I know. Then I'll pick a character or two to pair them with, and write you a few sentences of cliché fic!

There's some fandoms that I'm more comfortable writing than others, of course, so I'll just list them first:

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Ouran High School Host Club

Other than that, uh. Ask and I'll say yes or no, I guess?

Heiji was humming to himself as he wandered aimlessly around Tokyo Tower's observation deck. He supposed there were less interesting field trip destinations, but there couldn't be that many. It was also likely that lack of creativity was a factor in many high school trip planning committees, considering that he saw a good two other uniforms represented from high-schools alone.

"You wouldn' believe th' prices here," Kazuha griped, coming up next to him. "750 yen fer a can a' tea! It's highway robbery, I tell ya!"

"Toldja t'bring yer own stuff," Heiji snarked back. He opened his mouth to continue teasing his friend, but was suddenly distracted by a blinding flash of light. Glancing around, it looked like only two or three other people even noticed, which was strange, to say the least.

It got stranger, though, as the image of a young girl manifested in the sky. "Help, save our world!" she cried. "Legendary Magic Knights!"

With that, the floor dropped out from under his feet, and Heiji found himself freefalling in an unfamiliar sky.

I just. I couldn't resist. One of the other two (or three?) is Shin'ichi, though I couldn't decide if I wanted the other to be Kaito, Hakuba, or both, so. *shrugs* Your guess is as good as mine?

I think Shinichi is definitely one, and the other could be Hakuba. We've got to have a blond ^_____^

Argh, I am totes late /)_(\ But! I am still getting here, which puts me a leg up on last time, so. Away I go! (Also~ ♥ It is good to see you being active on the intertubes again~ ♥♥♥ Have I said that yet? I don't think I have. GOOD TO SEE YOU, IN ANY CASE ♥♥♥♥♥)

It's a tea shop that Zuko enters. He doesn't recognize it for what it is at first, without his uncle there, but eventually he figures it out: the random couples sitting across from one another at too-small tables, the busy-looking student-types with giant cups and papers spread everywhere, the business-person-types rushing out with disposable dishes and briefcases, the display case of cakes and other consumables by the cash register. He wonders how he missed it at first, Uncle's dragged him into so many.

Zuko slides surreptitiously into a booth, feeling awkward. He wonders if he should have planned what he should do when he finally ditched his bodyguards, instead of just trying to figure out how. Things like that pop out at him, now that he's finally done it.

"Hey," someone says. Zuko looks up, seeing a boy about his age with shaggy brown hair and a tan. He's got a toothpick in his mouth, though what could have gotten stuck in his teeth at a tea shop, Zuko is not entirely sure. Jet, his name tag reads. "Waiting for someone?" the teen asks.

Zuko hunches his shoulders. "...Not really," he answers at last.

"Huh. Well, if you're planning to get something, you'll need to haul your ass up to the register; we only do table waiting on really special occasions." With a wink, he turns and walks over to the counter; Zuko belatedly notices he's wearing a shirt that advertises for the shop. (He also notices Jet's ass, but doesn't realize he's doing so until the teen is on the other side of the register.)

Zuko sits for a moment, but he doesn't exactly have anything else planned. He stands up and goes to place an order; maybe if he's lucky, Jet will have a break before Zuko's body guards catch up to him.

In my head, Jet's mom owns the shop, and Jet helps keep it going. I'm conflicted as to what would happen next, though, as I've got different ideas for what might happen. Does Jet find out right away that Zuko is a prince? Or does Zuko continue the charade and start working there, since the shop is short-handed with Jet's mother sick? Either way, how did Jet not immediately recognize Zuko? And who, exactly, do I want Zuzu's body guard(s) to be? Questions, questions...
