So! Once upon a time, back when I was in high school, Dad came home from one of his many secondhand-thing-collecting trips (garage sales, secondhand stores, antique shops, the works) with a really amazing pair of roller-skates. I mean really amazing. Old black leather boots with eyes and hooks that lace up a couple inches over the ankles with very generic looking metal-framed roller-skate, uh, frames mounted to the soles. They were my size ♥ I claimed them pretty much instantly.
Unfortunately, after a couple uses at most, they ended up living in my closet, out of sight and more-or-less out of mind.
And then, a week ago Wednesday, I finally saw Whip It. The skates floated up through a sea of memory like flotsam from another life, and I knew I was bringing them out of retirement.
Finally dug them up out of my closet tonight, and if they aren't exactly how I remember them, then my high school memory was clearly inadequate. (Pay no attention to the IQ tests that claim my memory was actually better then than it is now. They lie!)
A few minutes ago, I decided to make sure they still fit. Never mind that they don't actually have brakes (bah, brakes! (really, though, I'm kinda nervous about that; good thing Mom still had her old skating wrist braces around ^^a)). Never mind that they add a good three or four inches to my height and, at 5'10", I don't really need to be any taller. (Unless I want brownies, but we're not going there right now.) Never mind that I haven't skated in years and a second-story carpeted apartment isn't exactly the best place to try and pick it up again. I wanted them on now!
And so I did. And they do. And now here I am. With these on and my mind on movie awesome, I feel something like an adrenaline (junkie) goddess ♥
