This is partly just updating-for-the-sake-of-updating, but I did at least want to say that I found this video with a possible solution to the "Why the frick do I have to walk 10,000 steps a day*?!" Pokéwalker problem.
Other solutions suggested in the comments were: Still shake it, but very slowly; shake slowly while on a moving vehicle; tape it to a ceiling fan on "low". Someone also suggested 'stick it to the side of a (clothes) drier', but there's any number of ways to interpret that, and I'm not sure any of them are a good/viable idea.
Personal solution, as I don't yet have a record player of my own: Stick the ends of disposable chopsticks through the belt hook, spin in an ellipse. This is likely to cause wrist problems later on, but as I have no ceiling fan at the moment, and still need to find/ask to borrow a record player, it will have to do. Not that I'm going to stop walking, of course; I just won't worry quite as much about it.
* 10,000 steps a day to unlock all of the unlockable-by-watts areas in 200 days, provided you don't spend any of your watts on dowsing or Pokéradar, and also provided your Pokémon doesn't find any randomly. As to why, apparently some Japanese health guy was like, "You need to walk at least 7,000 steps a day to be healthy, and 10,000 would be ideal," and Nintendo was like, "Hey, that's a great idea! Let's make our nerds be more active!" And yeah. Soooooo deeply flawed. You may be able to extort exercise from me, Nintendo, but I will resent you deeply for it! *fistshake*
Aaaand just so this entry isn't entirely Pokémon ramblings: here is a picture of my awesome roller skates, that I still need to practice using a million ways. Fffffff, we actually have a roller derby league in the area, I AM RUNNING OUT OF EXCUSES, augh.

Date: 2010-03-20 07:53 am (UTC)Considering I was playing Diamond this year still, three years later... I won't worry about getting everything unlocked fast. The only course I've bled dry of everything I want is the first one anyway- and even then I could probably go back for a Nidoran if I don't find one. But I did get a Kanghaskhan before my second badge >D

Date: 2010-03-21 04:19 am (UTC)* Yeah. Around 11:00 PM, the Pokémon who follows you starts yawning and looking tired/worn out, as if trying to hint that it's bed time, perhaps, gamer-type-person? Never mind what time I may have started playing today, etc etc. And yeah, I'm sure that people who have weird job shifts (etc) can either live with it or change the time setting on their DS to more realistically reflect their hours, but come on! I am perfectly capable of making my own decisions, Nintendo, thank you very much.
...I am done ranting now and will shut up about my problems with this for a while.

Date: 2010-03-21 06:03 am (UTC)I always kind of liked the day/night thing because night pokemon are different from day pokemon... though hoothoot are almost as bad as zubat at this point.
Also also just because you're satisfied does not mean it is the best for you ;P That doesn't mean you have to change it though ahaha. I think it's actually a good thing over all, young kids should get out more than they do these days. Just because I wanted to be a hermit doesn't mean it was a good thing :|||| Let me be a hermit aloneee
