Gee, I wonder what this icon is for...?
Oct. 29th, 2007 07:26 pmSocchan: *has just finished watching the last few minutes of the final episode of Gurren Lagann*
Socchan: *twitches*
Socchan: ...THE HELL DID I WATCH THIS ANIME FOR ANYHOW.
Okay, I'm better now.
This post used to be a lot more full of vitriol in general, but once I got it typed out I felt better about myself and worse about the writing, so I deleted it. Mostly right now I'm frustrated with the Japanese cultural need for unhappy/ambiguous endings, so as far as I'm concerned, the series ended/diverged after Coco-jii gave the dress to Nia. At that point, yet another giant robot fell out of space and all the "dead" people got out of it, where it became apparent that they had only been trapped in another dimension because they had been "killed" trying to utilize spiral energy, but they'd drilled their way out. And then (almost) everyone lived happily ever after. The end.
A girl can dream, can't she DD:
...Oh yeah. And I finally have a favorite character that I'd re-watch the series for. Go me. It only took twenty-six episodes, too!
*sigh* I need cake.

Date: 2007-10-30 02:59 am (UTC)HOWEVER, Eureka 7 also has Surfing Robots and GOOD END. I think that they could have trimmed about 10 episodes worth of stuff from the show and made it a lot better, BUT, it's still very good and I definitely recommend it.
IF you're going to check out anything else Gainax and you enjoyed Gurren Lagann, I'd rec Gunbuster ("Aim for the Top!") and Diebuster ("Aim for the Top! 2" or "Gunbuster 2").
There (http://pics.livejournal.com/heebee/pic/000ctgkx) are (http://pics.livejournal.com/heebee/pic/000cwq3h) some (http://pics.livejournal.com/heebee/pic/000cyd1d) obvious (http://pics.livejournal.com/heebee/pic/000cxqc3) correlations (http://pics.livejournal.com/heebee/pic/000czywr) between these series. (uh, some of the links are a bit spoilery for Diebuster but it's NOTHING THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IN GURREN LAGANN ALREADY. Just don't read any of the text and you should be fine. Just matching the visuals here).
The ending of Gunbuster is bittersweet, leaves you crying, but in a good way.
