More of that socio-political thing

Hey, f-list. I want to talk to you about something important to me.
I would like to request that you please take a moment to look at this petition and possibly sign it.
You probably know that California passed Proposition 8 in November. This proposition took away the rights of gay couples to marry, but it was unclear on the position of whether or not gay couples who were already married could stay married.
Now, Ken Starr is trying to nullify these 18,000 marriages that were carried out before the passage of Prop 8. The gay community has been put down again and again by this country, but I like to think that we are moving forward towards equality. I want to someday be able to marry the woman I love. It isn't about whether it makes you uncomfortable, or whether you believe it's a choice - it's about granting a human to right the thousands upon thousands of couples who are denied rights in this country, the land of the free.
So please take a moment to look at the link I provided.
Thank you.

Date: 2009-02-11 07:07 pm (UTC)As a Californian, I was ashamed that Prop 8 passed. And although I have a few friends and relatives against gay marriage, the whole idea of taking away a person's rights and privileges is sickening, something we all can agree with.
Also, San Francisco's mayor Gavin Newsom, the one who argued against Prop 8 on Dr. Phil, is planning to run for governor of California. Hopefully, some sort of progress will happen in a few years time.

O_O What, really? That is just. Way too awesome. *considers making banners*
