Guess who's in charge of the brand spankin' new accessibility department-thing for AnimeIowa? 8D That's right, you're reading her update!
Oh my gosh, I am so excited about this position ♥♥♥ It's ultra-important to me that everyone who attends AI can enjoy themselves without worrying about whether the guests or panelists will know to use the mic, or how long they'll have to wait in line to get their badge, or if they have enough room to turn around in any given area, or whether they'll have a place to pee when some inconsiderate person decides they'd really like to change costumes in the handicapped access stall - or even if they'd just feel safer peeing without having to declare a gender. These sorts of concerns should be secondary to all the potential fun at a convention, and I'm going to do my best to make sure they actually ARE.
With that in mind, I've got a bit of a to-do list:
* Dig through
access_fandom to find what sort of things people there have already suggested/implement
* Check base with the hotel staff, see what accommodations they regularly make/have available
* Make sure I've got an e-mail address up on the web site so people who need accommodations know who to contact
* Get a thread started on the forum to about the same effect
* List everything I can think of so far that I already know I need to do and get started on it
* Start asking about things I haven't thought of or just don't know the answer to yet
And now I think it is possibly time for a nap. That AI meeting may have been exhaustingly good, but it was still exhausting.
