Welp, another episode, another dead girlfriend for Derek Hale.
Seriously, show, you are not giving me any hope whatsoever that Jennifer Blake will survive to have a healthy breakup with Derek.
On that note, what are the odds that Kate noticed Derek's eye color change and used that as "justification" for mass murder? Possibly even scooped him up in his vulnerable state, etc etc. Seriously, I am wondering how the whole Kate thing started now.
More general thoughts:
It's good to know that Peter was a mendacious asshole even before the fire. It's even better to know that Stiles recognizes him as an unreliable narrator and is looking to corroborate stories.
Likewise: Scott and Gerard. Seriously, Gerard, you kept your heartbeat exactly steady for the entire story? It didn't even once change from remembering any of those events? If that's not justification for being suspicious, I don't know what is. (Oh wait, I do: How about EVERYTHING ELSE YOU'VE EVER DONE.)
There's probably some significant symbolism to talk about in the difference between the proverb as related by Gerard and Deaton (Gerard used "turtle" where Deaton used "frog"), even aside from who was cast in the role as scorpion, but I'm not entirely sure how to approach it. Insight welcome! (Turtles come with built-in armor, so the scorpion had to deliberately strike for a vulnerable point? Frogs naturally change shape through their lifetime? IDK.)
Back to Paige, I didn't recognize that first song she played off the top of my head, but the second was "Ave Maria". I'm guessing that may have been to reinforce her "innocence" in the narrative. Sure, let's absolutely draw a comparison between her and the woman who, according to Christian tradition, was born without original sin! That doesn't seem heavy-handed at all!
Also, can I just say that I'm disappointed that we didn't get to see the consequences of Sheriff Stilinski rescuing Deaton in this episode? Because that was some seriously suspicious shit, and Scott and Stiles had already agreed to tell him everything. I'd really like/have liked to see that on screen!

Date: 2013-07-23 09:49 pm (UTC)Bah, what a waste of an episode (except the bits with Deucalion and Gerard, I guess -- falling somewhat flat, but at least we moved the damn plot along).

And what an appropriate icon you use to express that sentiment ;)

Date: 2013-07-23 11:09 pm (UTC)...and to be fair to Teen Wolf, SOME characters definitely try to share, compare notes etc. I guess Stiles is, as ever, the audience insert there; we are all rolling our eyes at the lack of information flow.
I can't help but wonder; don't writers understand that unreasonably manipulated knowledge always lessens the quality of a storyline? I'm not saying everything a show like Fringe did was golden, but what they DID do is let the characters share info when it was the reasonable and human thing to do (and on Fringe, even when it would have been understandable not to share; I genuinely respected Peter for sharing asap).
