Urrgggghhh, high heels on superheroes (only ever female superheroes, of course) and magical girls have been annoying me for over a decade, because impractical much? And even if we assume that every character that fights in high heels has supernatural grace/balance/healing (which is a laughable notion), cosplayers don't. Real, living humans don't! Enforcing heels on fictional characters just because they "look better" and then pretending that it has no real-world impact is ignorant at best, and can be downright dangerous to actual living people at worst.
*coughs* Not like any of that is news to you, of course! I guess I just had a rant in me.
I am so glad she's passed the cuteness test! I feel like cuteness is an important part of magical girl costumes and paraphernalia. Most likely because it sells things better, but I'm not really expecting to get a huge merchandising deal out of this. Mostly I'm hoping to make at least a few people feel more represented and included and like they matter, because they do, and that's the most important thing I've ever wanted out of my original work. I have a story in me and Ruby seemed like a good fit for the role, so I'm going for it!
Wow, that went someplace I wasn't expecting. Hm. It seems like I might have an extra essay in me about motivation and perceived arrogance and so forth. I didn't actually mean for this comment to turn into the giant essay repository, though!
Anyway, yes! Practical-ish shoes and cuteness, good.
